If you’re anything like me right now, it’s been a minute since you’ve felt that kind of pure, unabashed joy you might remember from childhood. Deadlines, laundry, sickness, and the general mundanity of daily adult life can really work to dampen our delight.
As grown-ups, we’ve been around the block a few times now, it’s old news, and we’re starting to notice all of the cracks in the sidewalk. But little kids? Well, they only just got here! To these perfect little weirdos, absolutely everything in our strange old world is brand new.
The concept of a garbage bin? Absolutely fascinating. Pebbles on the sidewalk? Tiny treasures. Birds, planes, brooms, you name it: they're all a thrill for them. And don't get me started on trains... although to be fair, moving to Melbourne after growing up in a city without them, I did get a big ol' kick out my first train ride.
That’s why when the weight of the world feels like it’s all too much, there is one steadfast place on the internet we grown-ups count on, to ease our troubled minds.
Wholesome kid videos. Those videos that make you appreciate so much seeing little ones being their candid, unfiltered, creative selves.
Kids are there to remind us to stop taking ourselves so seriously. That if we just pause and take a look, our world is filled with unimaginable beauty, unabashed joy and unbridled goofiness.
So in the words of our friends, The Rembrandts, if it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month or even your year, take this list as your personal prescription to restore your faith in our weird little world.
1. Life's a game and Leigh Campbell's little Bug makes his own rules.
2. This 2-year-old who belongs at the beach now.
5. Now we know this 2-year-old is making these sounds, but our brains can't... compute. That's one clever, observant kid!
7. Just because this is SO wholesome (those giggles! My heart!).
9. The making of Beyoncé's next back-up dancer.
11. When this little girl finds the absolute correct word to describe sparkling water.
12. Just Laura and Matty J's Marlie having a good 'ol yarn to herself.
13. This kid who is just here to remind us to follow our dreams, no matter what.
14. An ambitious pour we could never be mad at.
