Something weird be happening on the internet.
You see, all over social media there are photos of people falling out of their… cars.
And when they fall out of said cars they land in the middle of a carefully laid out selection of luxury goods – including bags, shoes, and even wads of cash.
It’s called the “Flaunt Your Wealth” or “Falling Stars” challenge and it’s something the rich kids in China are very much into.
Last week, one influencer had a friend shoot a video of her falling out of a car onto a pedestrian crossing in Taizhou, a city in China’s eastern Zhejiang province.
The video clocked up over 50,000 views on the video sharing platform, TikTok. The woman was later fined for parking illegally.
The challenge is particularly popular on the Chinese social media platform, Weibo.
The trend started in July after a Russian DJ posted a photo on Instagram of himself pretending to fall out of his… private jet.
Then it just became a… thing.
It’s very silly and it makes no sense to us but here we are.
Of course, it’s ripe for parodies so people have been posting their own funny versions across social media:
