Excuse us. We know there are some really serious and important things going on in the world right now: Brexit is a shamble, the US election race is on, the Rugby World Cup is happening and so on.
And these things deserve time and attention because they are important. But sometimes… one just really wants to tune out from the news and focus on something that may be considered a tad frivolous.
Like dissecting which Bachelorette contestant you’d date, rating cheesy Christmas movies or discussing what you’d do with your money when you win Powerball. (Definitely buying some swanky Italian property porn, for me!)
But there’s one thing we really like to do in our spare time: Looking at dogs doing cute things on Instagram. And this is totally okay (we tell ourselves again and again).
Dogs are, not-quite-literally-but-nearly-there, little rays of sunshine. And when a smiling, care-free Labrador or Dachshund pops up on our Sunday arvo feed, our it’s-nearly-Monday sob fest eases a little. So we’ll keep following cute dog accounts, thank you very much.
Now there are a frillion dog Instagram accounts out there, including one my sister made for our now-passed dog, Bella, who had a whopping 14 followers and used to give shout-outs.
But do you know whose dogs don’t have 14 followers? Kylie Jenner’s dogs. Katy Perry’s dog. Or any celebrity dog, for that matter.
Here’s our pick of the very good boys and girls who deserve a follow:
Katy Perry’s dog – @officialnuggetperry
Katy Perry’s dog’s Instagram was launched at a certainly, erm, convenient time for the singer.
@officialnuggetperry was apparently launched ahead of the release of her ‘Small Talk’ music video, but we’re not complaining.
Look. At. This. Good. Boy.
And behold…
Looks like Nugget had a bit of a ruff weekend. (I’m sorry, that was truly terrible).
To this date, Nugget has around 1200 followers, which is ace for a dog who has no comprehension of Instagram. (As opposed to all those other tech-addicted dogs).
Paris Hilton’s pooches – @hiltonpets
If you’re like me, when you think of ‘Paris Hilton’ and ‘pet’, you think of Tinkerbell, the teeny tiny chihuahua that Paris carried around with her in the early noughties. (God, are you feeling as old as I am right now?)
But Paris has since expanded her brood (although we must admit, not by much – they’re all still crazy small) and documents their (likely) very extravagant lives on @hiltonpets.
…I’m not sure if the above animal still classifies as a dog or if we have gone into rodent territory here, but either way it’s very, very, unconventionally cute.
If you check out the @hiltonpets Instagram, you’ll notice one of Paris’ dogs just can’t seem to keep his tongue in his mouth and it is – excuse us for the gushiness – just adorable.
Oh hi, there. We couldn’t help but want to adopt this particularly cute doggo immediately…
Kylie Jenner’s dogs – @normieandbambijenner)
Kylie Jenner’s dogs, of course, share her last name so they are not confused with all the other dogs named Normie and Bambi.
Here are @normieandbambijenner with “Auntie Kendall”, and don’t we all pose with our dogs like this? I feel a #celestebarberchallenge coming on…
Lady Gaga and her French bulldog, Asia – @missasiakinnney
This account (@missasiakinnney) is a little out of date, but shows a really sweet side of Gaga. You can really see the love she has for her dog, Asia (who shares her last name with Gaga’s ex, Taylor Kinney).
If you can believe it, Asia has modelled for the fashion label Coach. Because of course she has.
Amanda Seyfried’s super popular dog, Finn – @finnsite
Meet Finn Seyfried (Jesus, remember when dogs were simply called ‘Spike’ or ‘Spot’ and now they have middle and last names? My mum’s dog is called Archibald Maurice, and yes, he’s a very good boy).
Finn has more Instagram followers than you ever will.
At my last glance, @finnsite had near 86,000 followers. That’s a lot of pressure for one dog to live up to, but don’t worry, he seems to have a lot of confidence.
Is it just us or does he look like Simba proudly staring into the distance from Pride Rock?
Are we overthinking it? Yeah, probably.
And here is Finn looking a little less sure of himself.
Priyanka Chopra’s dog, Diana – @diariesofdiana
Actress Priyanka Chopra says in her dog Diana’s Instagram bio, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” and… what does that mean?
Her dog is rich? A good dog actress? Also married to a boy band member?
We’re not sure. But Diana (@diariesofdiana) sure is cute.
Same. Same.
Carrie Fisher’s dog, Gary – @garyfisher
Before she died, Carrie Fisher set up an Instagram for her dog, @garyfisher, the ‘DOPEST DOG IN THE GALAXY’, according to his bio.
We love it when dogs have human names, which makes Gary – who is officially Instagram-verified, by the way – very special.
Luckily, someone appears to be updating Gary’s feed for his late mother, Carrie.
Take a look at his Instagram for lots of disarming pics of Gary with his tongue hanging out.
Sir, your tongue… it’s hanging out.
