baby

A once popular baby name may be officially extinct and we don't know how to feel.

There are some names which simply do not belong to babies.

Bruce, for example. Or Beryl.

Now, a woman in the United Kingdom has given birth to a Nigel and statisticians believe he might be the last one to be born… ever.

Dun dun dunnnnn.

So is this devastating or the best thing to happen to Nigel and his proverbial no friends?

Listen: Holly Wainwright and Andrew Daddo discuss the undoubtable fact that the name Nigel is well and truly out of fashion. (Post continues after audio…)

We know nothing gets us excited about something like not being able to have it anymore. Just think about Polaroid film… or vinyl records. We ignored them until they disappeared and then demanded they return.

So maybe, just maybe, despite poking fun at these folks for their unpopular choice, we should be applauding them for potentially saving Nigel from extinction.

Right… guys?

Oh, the baby is adorable! He deserves a far nicer name than Nigel. It's a hideous name.

Also, I'm not sure how widespread this was but when I was at school, a nigel was a person with no friends. I went to school in the Inner West and then the North Shore of Sydney, and the slang was very common in both areas.
