A mum is seriously confused after her best friend 'stole' two of her baby names.

A mum has been left baffled after finding out that her best friend ‘stole’ her children’s names – yes, children, plural.

The woman shared her story on Reddit and asked for advice on how to handle the uh, ‘theft’.

“One of my very best friends named her daughter two of my children’s names. She named her daughter Nix Ryan. My son’s first name is Nix and my daughter’s middle name is Ryan.”

The woman clarified that she’s not upset that her friend used to same names and would never have told her not to if asked, but is just seriously confused that her friend didn’t tell her.

“I am not suggesting that she cannot name her child whatever she wishes I just thought it was very odd that she never told me before she named her,” she wrote.

And then it got even weirder.

“When I said ‘Oh wow, our kids share names,’ she said “I didn’t even realise when I picked it, and later was like OMG.'”

The woman pointed out that the pair were best friends. Like, ‘be there at the birth of each others children’ level best friends, so there was no way her friend wouldn’t have realised the name similarities.

She asked her fellow Reddit users if she was being “weird”, or if something really was off and while most didn’t believe there was a problem with her friend using the same names – imitation is the sincerest form flattery after all – many agreed her response was a tad bizarre.

“Using the same middle name is fine imo and I could see someone not remembering their friend’s child’s middle name… But the first name. That’s weird to say she didn’t make the connection,” said one comment.

Another said: “I think she definitely made the connection and realised she was naming her child the same thing you named yours, but probably loved the name so much that she didn’t want to discuss it with you in case you told her not to use it. Now she can pretend she didn’t really realise/think about the connection and there isn’t really anything you can do because her child is here and named.”

“It’s bizarre that she’s passing it off as a lapse in memory though. I mean, I’d be way more offended by the thought of my best friend ‘forgetting’ my child’s name than I would be about her just liking the same name as I did,” wrote another.

One comment pointed out that the friend – and all other parents, actually – are under no obligation to discuss their baby names before their child is born and named.

In an update, the woman said she confronted her friend and things got… heated.

“Spoiler Alert: We will no longer be friends at this point because frankly this may be the weirdest shit that as happened in my adult life.”

She wrote that the friend immediately got defensive, started crying and claimed her baby’s name was actually Onyx before hanging up.

Oh no.

We hope they can patch things up because, as one comment pointed out, two little Nixes growing up together would be super cute.

What do you think? Should the friend have discussed this with the woman before naming her baby? Let us know what you think in a comment.
