'Is this really the best under eye product, ever? I tried it.'

Recently, my friend and co-host of the You Beauty podcast Kelly McCarren talked about the one under eye product she can't get enough of. In fact, she went as far as to say it's the best under eye product she'd ever used, which is a pretty hefty call that shouldn't be taken lightly.

Because, at the risk of sounding like a d**k, when it comes to beauty products, we try a lot of stuff. And while something might wow us one week, there's usually something better and shinier waiting just around the corner.

So, I knew I had to get my hands on it.

Watch: Speaking of under eyes, a makeup artist showed us how to get rid of under eye bags. Post continues below.

The product (how rude of me!) I'm referring to is, of course, the Smashbox Smashbox x Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector, $55.

Yes! Described on the website as a "brightening colour corrector", it's basically used to neutralise and balance skin discolouration (like dark circles) for a more even skin tone. So, it's different from a concealer.

Now, if you've ever read one of my articles before (thanks, mum!), you'll know my favourite duo is the Bobbi Brown Corrector Sticks and the Bobbi Brown Concealer Sticks. I usually layer the tiniest bit of both these products under my eyes, and it works perfectly to cancel my dark circles and brighten my eyes.

However. In recent times, I've been completely bypassing concealer — especially now that it's winter and everything is a little drier and just deciding to accentuate the fine lines around my eyes.

In fact, it's not just me — there's even been whispers (see: this Allure article) pointing to the death of concealer completely. Sounds a bit rash, I know, but it's kinda true when you think about it.

While layering on bright concealer and powders was all the rage in 2016, these days, our minimalistic approach to beauty has seen us shift to a lighter look when it comes to embracing our under eye quirks (dark circles, puffiness and all) rather than completely camouflaging them.

Okay great what's your point, sweetie?

Well, I've been trialling this under eye product for the last week or so — and I think it leans into this new 'less is more' trend, cancelling the need for heavy concealer or powder that often always ends up looking a bit cakey or creased as the day wears on.

Here's what it looks like:

Here she is!

Cute!

Using the TINEST bit under your eyes (or a "chia seed amount, as Kelly specified), is enough to neutralise and balance out skin discolouration, brightening the type of darkness under your eyes that makes you look tired. Meaning? You don't have to go ahead and layer on concealer, etc.

While Kelly specified putting it on before foundation, I've been using it over the top (because I didn't pay attention) pressing the teeniest tiny bit in the corners of my eyes and blending out. And it works like a dream.

Just look at my eyes:

Before (left) and after (right) using Becca x Smashbox.

But you don't have to just take my word for it (ouch, but fine).

Everyone in the You Beauty Facebook group is talking about it too — and the product actually sold out in Mecca (don't worry, it's back in stock now!), which convinced me I really needed to try it for myself.

Someone wrote: "Kelly recently raved about this product twice on the pod and described it as the best product she’s ever put under her eyes, so naturally I ran out to buy it. Just here to reconfirm that, bloody hell, it’s good. Under eye, brightened! Dark circles, gone! No other make up necessary. But don’t use too much - A CHIA SEED, PEOPLE!"

Cue: Over fifty comments from Youbies sharing their thoughts on it, too.

One person wrote, "This stuff is the best."

"Fixes my puffy and dark under eyes like magic!" someone else said.

"Absolute magic for dark under eyes!" said another.

The only drawback? It's pretty spendy. At $55, it's certainly not the cheapest under eye product getting around, but as Kelly said on the podcast - you need so little it should literally last for yonks.

However, one Youbie said, "I know dupes are controversial right now, but W7 at Chemist Warehouse have a very good match for this product called 'Illuminaid'. It comes in two shades, and I got it for about $3. I was a big fan of the Becca original and I think this is very close!!"

I have MAJOR blue circles and this does work well. They are not gone but they are certainly reduced and it looks very light and natural. Recommend! Plus $55 yes but will last for years at the rate I use it.
