Bali 9 execution: Do you support the death penalty?

As the execution of condemned Bali 9 duo Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran draws closer, it’s the question that’s dividing Australians.

Should the pair face the firing squad as punishment for their crimes?

Some people say yes. They believe Chan and Sukumaran knew risks when they smuggled drugs to Bali and that they deserve to face the consequences. Other people say that killing the men serves no purpose; that they have reformed, they have worked hard to create meaningful lives and that the deserve to live.

In this video by Mamamia TV, the team discuss their personal feelings on the death penalty. And you’ll be surprised to hear that not everyone agrees.

Tell us what you think – what’s your stance on the death penalty for the Bali 9?

i'm just in the mood to write tonight.....i believe the part everyone seems to forget is that when u arrive at the airport in Indonesia before the plane lands u have to fill out a customs forum at the bottom of this forum in BIG RED letters the message say's: If u get caught bringing drugs into this country the penelty is DEATH,u will be shot by a firing squad! anybody with sense can plainly see it's not a good idea to test this statement an for dumb ass people who wish to test this these are ur examples of what happens when u get caught!

- I don't believe that these men are receiving the death penalty for the right reasons. If it was going to be done it should of been done 10 years ago, not now when it has become a circus and about power of one man. It has been such a long, drawn out and torturous time for the people directly involved. The way this whole story has unfolded I feel like we are back in the days when crowds gathered, threw things and watched with entertainment the deaths of the condemned. Just doesn't sit easily
