1. Terrorist group attacks airport in Pakistan.

Militants have attacked Pakistan’s largest airport in Karachi, and killed at least 23 people in their attempts to seize a plane.

The militants were disguised as security guards when they stormed through the airport terminal, and tried to take control of a passenger plane. Currently, it is believed that a Taliban faction called Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan may be responsible for the attack.

The group attacked a terminal reserved for special VIP flights and cargo, and witnesses said that heavy gunfire and two explosions could be heard coming from Jinnah International Airport. The militants were reportedly wearing suicide vests, and carrying AK47 assault rifles and grenades.

The bodies of two civilians and seven ASF officials have been recovered from the airport. A least 15 other people were injured, and taken to hospital.

Four members of the terrorist group were also killed.

2. The Slender Man inspires another attack.

The Slender Man has reportedly inspired another attack in America.

A woman in Ohio has been stabbed multiple times by her 13-year-old daughter, and sustained injuries to her face, neck and back. The woman has revealed her daughter was obsessed with the Internet horror character the Slender Man.

The mother also said her daughter – who is currently in a juvenile detention centre, and says she cannot remember the night she stabbed her mother – had been dealing with “mental issues”.

Raw Story reported the mother saying:

“I came home one night from work and she was in the kitchen waiting for me and she was wearing a mask — a white mask,” the woman said. “She had her hood up and had her hands covered with her sleeves and the mask.”

“She was someone else during that attack,” the mother added.

3. Woman has stolen photos of her deceased child returned to her.

A woman in York who had her bag stolen from outside her house, later had one very important item from her purse returned to her by the thief.

Patricia Harris, 27, was devastated when she realised her handbag had been stolen – because along with her phone and tablet, the thief had taken a memory card which had almost 500 photos of her infant son Cole, who died a few months earlier from SIDs.

“The memory card was in my purse. I was lost. I cried a lot,” Patricia said.

Patricia and her fiancé, 30-year-old Michael Fogle, then began taping up pictures around their neighbourhood asking for the return of the memory card.

And then, only three days later, the remarkable happened. The memory card was returned to their house, placed on the family’s car.

Patricia told The York Dispatch, “I guess the thief has a portion of a heart. You just take things and you don’t know what you’re stealing from someone and what it means for that person or their family.”

4. At least five people dead after shooting in Walmart.

A shooting has taken place inside a Las Vegas Walmart store, and at least five people have been killed.

The gunmen – one man and one woman – reportedly said that their attack was the beginning of a “revolution”.

5. Family of Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl receive death threats.

The family of returned solider Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl has received death threats, after controversy surrounding the circumstances of the soldier’s capture and release.

Many in the United States believe that Sgt Bergdahl is a hero, while others – among them, soldiers he served with – have said that he endangered fellow soldiers when he abandoned his post before being captured.

The 28-year-old soldier was captured in 2009 after he disappeared from his unit, and was held by the Taliban for five years.

6. Naked photos of one of the nannies to British PM’s children have been posted online.

The Sun have reported that naked photos of a nanny to British Prime Minister David Cameron’s children, have been posted on internet sex sites, and in ads which encourage users to pay for live sex shows.

The woman, who was not named by the paper, told The Sun that the pictures must have been posted by an ex seeking revenge.

A source told The Sun, “She’s horrified these profiles have come to light and is mystified at how they got there. She insists it was nothing to do with her and must be down to one of her ex-boyfriends. She realises that the worst scenario could have been if someone had used the stuff posted on there to try to blackmail her.”

Police have received a complaint from the woman, and the Prime Minister’s camp has not yet commented.

7. Man who fell to his death has been identified.

A man who fell to his death off a 40-metre cliff in the Royal National Park this weekend has been identified.

The man has been identified as 23-year-old Fabien Ardoin from France, who was working on a research program with a sustainability centre at the University of Wollongong, and modeling occasionally. Mr Ardoin was passionate about the outdoors, and a keen rock climber.

He was reportedly walking in the park with seven friends, when a cliff crumbled beneath his feet. The group had allegedly deviated from the recommend path in the park.

8. Miss Universe Australia hits back at claims that competition is “rigged”.

The 21-year-old winner of the title Miss Universe Australia, Tegan Martin, and spoken out against claims that that pageant was “rigged”.

“It’s important to accept your defeat with grace,” she told The Today Show this morning. “People always say it’s rigged – it’s pageantry. I remember lat year, some of the girls were saying the same thing.”

Finalist Kristy Coulcher wrote on Twitter following her loss, “@missuniverseaustralia may be rigged, but I still had the best gown by far.”

9. Australian racer wins Formula 1 victory in Canadian Grand Prix.

24-year-old Australian Daniel Ricciardo has won his first Formula 1 victory for Red Bull, in the Canadian Grand Prix.

“I am still a bit in shock,” Ricciardo said after the race. “Thanks everyone. This is ridiculous! There are lots of Australian flags… which is nice.”

“The race really came to life for the last 15-20 laps… Hamilton had a problem and Rosberg was slow down the straights. I really struggled to get past (Sergio) Perez, but managed to do that and set my sights on Nico with a couple of laps to go.

“I finally managed to get in the right spot to use DRS — and it’s an amazing feeling right now.”

10. Tony Abbott’s “Canadia” gaffe goes viral

Prime Minister Tony Abbott suffered an embarrassing slip of the tongue during his first official visit to Canada today.

In a press conference in the capital Ottawa, the Prime Minister pronounced the country’s name “Canadia,” before immediately correcting himself.

The slip happened when Mr Abbott was asked about Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s recent criticism of Russia. He responded: “Canadia, Canada, probably has more involvement in the affairs of Europe than Australia often does…”

The term “Canadia” is now trending on Twitter in Australia.
