A fast and loose ranking of The Amazing Race contestants by how likely they are to win.

Last night, I messaged the very few people in my life who I knew I could compete in an around-the-world race with without wanting to commit murder.

The Amazing Race Australia is back and I want in, I told them. But hey, I’m a bit late and watching from the couch is also pretty fun (plus, a lot more comfortable).

On last night’s opening episode we were introduced to 11 teams and watched them race around the South Korean capital Seoul, stacking cups, making dumplings and flyboarding, which I 100 per cent imagine to be the world’s most fun activity.

We said hello and goodbye to young South Australian siblings Alana and Niko, who were so bad at this they didn’t even complete one activity. Ah well, they’ll go down in Amazing Race history for… all the wrong reasons. ¯\_(ヅ)_/¯

There’s 10 teams left to fight it out for the first awkward hug from host Beau Ryan in the next episode, and we’ve ranked them by how likely it is they’ll be the final pair standing.

10. Judy and Therese.

I seriously hope the Canberra nuns make it beyond the first few episodes of the season because they're delightful. But... I don't see that happening, sadly.

9. Sid and Ash.

The Bondi influencers struggled to uh... find a number of things in the first episode, and instantly resorted to dirty tactics when they told Jasmine and Jerome the wrong information and stole a dumpling from Judy and Therese. These tactics aren't going to make them any friends and surely stealing from a nun deserves a penalty (as well as eternal damnation). Surely.

8. Chris and Adrienne.

Adrienne is South Australia's first ever female firefighter, but she and Chris didn't set the competition alight (I'm so sorry) during the first leg. They'll stick around a couple more episodes, but no longer than that.

7. Rowah and Amani.

If I did The Amazing Race with my mum, I would've left her in a South Korean taxi after 10 minutes but Rowah and Amani have a pretty solid bond. Amani even remained calm when her mum took 700 tries to stack some cups, and I reckon that solid patience and teamwork should keep them going for a few more legs.

6. Femi and Nick.

We didn't get to see much of childhood friends and psychiatric nurses, Femi and Nick, during the first episode, so I'm going to safely pop them in the middle of the pack for now.

5. Jasmine and Jerome.

I have a feeling Jasmine and Jerome will prove themselves as fierce competitors in later episodes but here they are, for now...

4. Viv and Joey.

The pocket rocket siblings got off to a flying start in the first leg, finishing second, and started an alliance with fellow Melburnians Tom and Tyler which will probably prove helpful as the race continues.

3. Tim and Rod.

Newlywed PTs Tim and Rod fared pretty well in episode one and tick a lot of the boxes needed to make it far: Patience, strong communication and fitness.

2. Hayley and Mikayla.

We already saw a glimpse of the Queensland sister's competitive streak in the first episode and they've shown they're willing to play tough, swooping in to take a taxi from right in front of Tom and Tyler.

1. Tom and Tyler.

The AFL lads from Melbourne came out as strong competitors right from the beginning. They hit a wee hurdle when they chose the stacking detour (it's not a sport, okay), but had already created a big enough lead to see them finish the first leg in top spot.
