If you like it then you should be able to put a ring on it. Ain’t that the truth?
As politicians continue to drag their feet on the issue of marriage equality in Australia (or tell CEOs to “stick to knitting” instead of speaking up – side-eye to you, Peter Dutton), Airbnb has stepped up its support – without a needle or a thread.
Today, the online accommodation rental service debuted its “Until We All Belong” campaign, with the support of fellow corporates Qantas, Google, ANZ and eBay, and in collaboration with The Equality Campaign.
Airbnb have crafted a bespoke “acceptance ring” designed by globally renowned Sydney-born, British-based designer Marc Newson, which ANYONE can order free of charge with standardised postage costs around Australia from untilweallbelong.com.
The matte black metal ring has a gap in the middle, which represents the gap that needs to be filled for marriage equality to become a reality Down Under. Inscribed on the inside of the ring is a secret but powerful message: “Until We All Belong.”
Airbnb launched the campaign with a series of videos featuring people of all ages, races, genders and sexual preferences pledging to wear the ring until marriage equality is legalised.
According to Airbnb CEO and Head of Community Brian Chesky, the campaign aligns with the brand's value of creating a world where everyone belongs.
"We are committed to helping people belong no matter where they are in the world and strongly believe that everyone should have the right to marry the person they love," Chesky said.
"This is an opportunity for people to show their support for marriage equality – not just those within the LGBTQI+ community, but for anyone to make their support for a brother, sister, parent, friend or loved one known."
The team at Mamamia wholeheartedly support this initiative. In fact, we love the rings so much we couldn't resist hand-modelling them for you below:
Airbnb have long been supporters of the LGBTQI community, since their inception in 2008.
Late last year, the site introduced a "Community Commitment" anti-discrimination pledge to weed out homophobia and racism among hosts, de-listing their properties if they chose not to sign the pledge.
The "Until We All Belong" campaign aims to spark conversation and bring about change close to home. For more information and to see more videos, visit untilweallbelong.com.
