The love, the joy and the pure elation of the historic day when Ireland voted in favour to support same-sex marriage is beautifully portrayed in this video: “Making History – GAZE celebrates marriage equality vote in Ireland”. Expect tears of joy and spine tingles.
Captured on May 22, 2015 at the announcement of the referendum results in Dublin castle, one of the most Catholic countries in the world voted 62 percent in favour of same-sex marriage. The first country in the world to make the change after popular vote. Incredible to think that was more than a year ago. Come on Australia, it’s your turn to make history on same-sex marriage.

Australia doesn't need a plebiscite/referendum like Ireland to allow same-sex marriage to be legal. The Australian High Court ruled in 2013 that our Federal Government already has the power to legalise same-sex marriage. There is no need for a plebiscite. It will only serve to allow divisive debate which will be harmful to our LGBTIQ community. The plebiscite is a ploy by the LNP to kick the equality can further down the road. Be aware that Malcolm Turnbull and his Government have NOT committed to making same-sex marriage legal if the outcome of a plebiscite is YES. Effectively, this $160 million plebiscite would be an expensive Newspoll. The Parliament needs to have a #FreeVote as soon as it resumes sitting after the election. The Labor Party and the Greens are the only major parties that can be relied upon to legalise same-sex marriage before the end of 2016.
