Penn Badgley has a simple message for anyone who fancies his character in YOU.

Penn Badgley, one of the stars of Netflix’s new psychological thriller series, YOU, has a very important message to fans.

You see… there’s a problem.

The series explores the relationship between Joe Goldberg, a bookstore manager, played by Badgley, and a student he meets in his shop, Guinevere Beck, played by Elizabeth Lail.

But it’s not your average relationship, in that Joe is an obsessive stalker who watches Guinevere from outside her window in the middle of the night, which is not only frowned upon socially but also entirely illegal.

Despite his criminal behaviour, fans are feeling… confused. Because Joe has the face of Penn Badgley. And his face looks like this.

Oh, yes. That's very nice.

His face is very nice. But his behaviour is... f*cked up.

Many have tweeted Badgley about their messed up attraction to him, and finally, he has decided to respond.

One woman tweeted: "Okay but was sexy as Dan but lord Joe is a whole new level".

The former Gossip Girl actor simply replied: "... of problems, right?".

When another fan wrote, "Said this already but is breaking my heart once again as Joe. What is it about him?" he responded, "A. He is a murderer."

... Valid.

Finally, a viewer put it like this.

And, of course, she's right.

You know what IS romantic and sexy?

A man who doesn't loiter outside someone's windows on weeknights, instead treating them respectfully, perhaps texting them, and taking them out for a nice meal.

Mmmmmmm.

Perhaps that will be Badgley's next role.
