Have you bought yourself a ticket to tonight’s Lotto draw yet? Because there’s a $100 million jackpot to be won. And with 7.5 million tickets expecting to be sold across Australia, there are an awful lot of people dreaming about sprinkling diamonds on their cornflakes just for shits and giggles.
There are two types of people: those who would quit their job in a heartbeat after a major financial windfall and those who’d choose to keep working in some capacity.
I wrote about this recently because me? I’d work. Not like I’m working now but I’d still work. Is it bad to admit that? Am I betraying some unwritten code that states work is a drag and leisure the ultimate goal?
This same code also says every mother (never father) should aspire to give up her career to spend more time with her family because surely the only thing keeping her in paid employment is the need to earn money.
Actresses (never actors) are always sprouting off in interviews about how much they want to quit Hollywood to stay home with their kids and yet they never do. I suspect this is because they love their work and their kids. Which is fine. Me too. So why is that something to be denied or played down like a shameful secret?

Ok $100 million let me see
If I had this sort of cash I would do the following
- Do NOT tell anyone
- Whack off my university debt
- Allocate 10-15% of $100,000,000 to a mansion in ONE (I mean only one) of either Brighton, Canterbury, Hawthorn, Kew, South Yarra or Toorak (Toorak all the way)
- Keep 5-10% as cold hard cash for enjoyment
- Buy three to five of the finest Swiss timepieces from Patek Phillipe and Chopard (Male)
- Buy the finest mens suits from Giorgio Armani
-Place the rest into a investment bank account (and shuffle some off to the Cayman Islands and Switzerland) (this would have to be approximately 75-80%)
Money of this type should be enjoyed & invested.
Note that overseas lotteries, such as Euromillions and Megamillions, offer larger jackpots. If I won Euromillions proper, well I will have to make a very tough decision- a $25 million mansion in Toorak or move to Wolseley Road Point Piper
I know that if I were working in the magazine industry and won the 100 million (which I know now that I didn't, despite yesterday being my birthday and all!) I would probably not quit, but I would retire much earlier and spend my 'grandma' years travelling all over the world.
In terms of what I would spend the money on, I would obviously give a lot away to various charities (because who seriously needs $100 million?!) such as the Cancer Council, World Vision, and many homeless shelters, people who have gone through natural disasters (help them rebuild their homes), etc.
Then I'd just have fun and buy an absolute TRUCKLOAD of clothes, shoes, makeup, hair products, shoes, bags, jewellery, perfume (i.e. everything I've ever wanted, but have never been able to afford).
I'd be smart and invest it in real estate and put it into a savings account to set myself (and future family) up for the future.
Life would be brill!
