How can so many women be so confused about something this basic?

I don’t need to tell you that the online universe can often be a depressing place. Take for example, Terry Richardson‘s Wikipedia page. Or the forums where lonely people go to complain about Kmart.

Sad, yes. But The Tumblr I read today may just be the most depressing of them all.

It’s called ‘Women Against Feminism‘, and it is the most depressing Tumblr that currently exists on the Internet.

On it, women are encouraged to send in photos of themselves holding up signs that explain why they don’t need feminism. Signs like this one:

Women Against Feminism is a self-described space for “women’s voices against modern feminism and its toxic culture”.

Toxic. Culture.

DAMN THOSE FEMINISTS AND THIER TOXIC QUEST FOR EQUAL RIGHTS!

How very dare they strive for a world in which rape culture doesn’t exist? A world in which women are paid the same as men for doing the same job? A world in which violence against women is not at endemic levels? A world in which women are represented equally in positions of government? A world in which women have autonomy over their own bodies?

How very dare those crazy feminists demand a world in which there is equal rights between men and women?

Because guess what? That’s all that feminism is. Feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social and economic equality to men.

Want to know if you’re a feminist? Answer this question:

Do you believe that men and women should have equal rights?

Yes? You are a feminist.

No? You are not a feminist (also, the middle ages called, and they would like their ideals back).

Before feminism, women couldn’t vote. They couldn’t even order their own drink in a bar. And while strides have been made in the right direction, we a still a long way off women having the equal rights they deserve. And that’s all feminists want: EQUAL RIGHTS.

But despite the concept of feminism being ridiculously simple, there are still people confused about what it actually means to be a feminist. That’s where blogs like ‘Women Against Feminism’ come in.

‘Women Against Feminism’ features a lot of women who are very angry about something that is not feminism. Take a look at the signs they hold up. Not one of them says ‘I am against feminism because I don’t believe that men and women should have equal rights’. And that means that not one of these ‘women against feminism’ are actually against feminism:
