Australia’s first female only sex club has recently opened at a private location in Sydney’s CBD.
The club, referred to as ‘Skirt Club’, is an exclusive event for bisexual and bi-curious women.
In an interview with Daily Life, founder Renee Nyx explained that she had the idea for bringing Skirt Club to Australia after attending a male and female sex party with her then boyfriend.
She felt the play party was far more about his pleasure than her own, and asked “Why can’t I experience a woman without a man being there to influence or dominate?”
Skirt Club began in London three years ago, before branching out to the US.
On any given night at the secret club 50 women, most of whom will adopt a pseudonym, will attend. Many guests will dress up. There are four main rules; no men, no pictures, no pressure, and no breaking confidentiality.
The intention is for women to be able to explore their sexuality in a “safe environment”. In Nyx’s words “It’s about putting women and the desires of women first. Women explore their desires and do it in a really relaxed and comfortable environment without the prying eyes of men or the expectations of other people.”
So, what sort of people go to a women only sex party?
According to Nyx, members are aged between 18 and 45 and come from a range of cultural backgrounds and religions. Not all guests identify as lesbian or bisexual, with many just seeking a new kind of experience.
In fact, Nyx says “some people like to come along and have a cocktail and mingle and have a chat with like-minded women and nothing more, that’s absolutely fine”.
With that said, a few relationships have developed from previous Skirt Clubs in the UK and US. “A few [women] identified as straight beforehand and met a women they fancied and surprised themselves,” Nyx says.
Married women, or women in relationships with men are also among the attendees. In fact, many have their tickets, which cost between $120 and $180, paid for by their partners,
The party begins around 9pm. Guests are treated to cocktails or champagne, before the entertainment begins. Nyx explains that every party is themed, so might include bellydancing or burlesque.
At 11pm the performance comes to an end, and guests “play some games” from a “naughty dice game” or “truth or dare” – which helps the women relax and connect.
As the night continues, women might go off privately into different rooms, where they might “kiss or do more” until the party ends at 3am.
