An American woman who was five months pregnant when she was involved in a car accident has woken from a four-month coma to find she has a baby boy.

Doctors were forced to deliver the baby – who is yet to be named but is referred to as ‘Baby L’ – prematurely in January.

Her family hopes the pair can meet as soon as Baby L is able to leave the neonatal intensive care unit at Tennessee Medical Center.

He will remain in jail until his sentence is handed down on May 29.

5. Free breast screenings to be offered to women over 70.

Health Minister Sussan Ley has announced free breast screenings will now be extended to women aged 70 to 74.

Currently, the mammogram program finishes when women reach 69.

The government’s free breast screening program will now be extended to women over 69.

The government is estimating an additional 220,000 breast screens will be delivered over four years at a cost of $55 million.

It could detect a further 600 breast cancers per year.

“Ageing is a strong risk factor for breast cancer. Of the 15,000 Australian women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer, three out of four will be aged 50 years or over,” Cancer Australia chief executive Professor Helen Zorbas said.
