8 key wardrobe pieces inspired by Mia and Leigh’s fashion pivots.

Welcome to the Nothing To Wear Edit where each week we curate the best picks from the topic we spoke about on the podcast. Listen to the full episode here.

On this week’s episode of Nothing To Wear Mia and I discuss our fashion pivots and how they’re always evolving. We also chat through gradual tips for anyone wanting to change up their style, because trying to do it all in one go is too daunting (and expensive).

Inspired by our chat, I’ve pulled together an edit of items that might mix and match with your autumn/winter ensembles.

Zara Mesh Mary Janes, $75.95.

This style of shoe is totally polarising, but I love them. The mesh is great for breathability and adds a visual lightness to autumn outfits, while the buckle across the top of the foot means they don't slip off.

M.N.G Catherine Jeans, $79.95.

I’m sure you’re sick of us talking about wide leg jeans, but they're here to stay (for now). This style has a flattering high waist and comes in two different shades of denim blue. The slightly cropped length also means you can show off your flats, kitten heels or boots.

Billini Ayla Heels, $89.95.

Mia is trying to move away from sneakers and into more flats and kitten heels. This style of pointy slingbacks is perfect because of the low heel, and the silver is a fun, unexpected twist on a neutral (metallics during the day is totally okay!)

M&S Lace Midaxi Slip Skirt, $87.99.

I’ve been wearing a lot of man-style shirts and pants for a while now, so my next step is to mix in some more delicate, feminine pieces. This skirt is perfect for wearing with a knit, grey marle jumper or even a plain white tee.

Cotton On The Beach Boys Band Tee, $34.99.

Mia is into band T-shirts right now, which look cool paired with tailored pants because it’s unexpected. My suggestion is to go for a monochrome design, or a white base, over the black and multi-coloured print ones - it just feels a bit more polished.

Uniqlo 100% Premium Lambswool Crew Neck Sweater, $49.90.

This will pair perfectly with the aforementioned lace slip skirt, but also work really well with my existing tailored pants and wide-leg jeans. A good quality grey knit will help tie countless outfits together.

Forever New Willow Cropped Trench, $149.99.

My love for a good trench coat is infamous, so this season I am going to add a cropped version to the mix. I like the look of it as a layering piece to see the waist of certain outfits. And this olive colour is perfection.

ALDO Gabi Knit Boot, $123.

For when I need to reach for fancy footwear, I’m going to try knitted boots this winter. They are really comfy because they are like wearing socks, and look great with a slip skirt because they are a little more delicate than leather. I feel that a nice grey or beige is visually balancing, too.

At Mamamia, we independently curate and write about products we rave about in our group chats and think you should know about too. If you purchase a product we have recommended, we may earn a small commission.
