PASS IT ON: Whooping cough boosters recommended in the 3rd trimester of EVERY pregnancy.

Send this to all of your pregnant friends.

The Australian Immunisation Handbook was updated this week, encouraging women to have whooping cough booster during the third trimester of every pregnancy.

The boosters are most effective when given between 27-32 weeks. This gives your baby maximum time to receive the necessary antibodies. However, if you miss these dates, the booster are SAFE to give up until birth.

As always, it is also important to ensure that friends and family who will have contact with your baby have their boosters, to further reduce the chance of your child contracting whooping cough.

These recommendations are brand new this week, so your doctor may not even be aware of them yet. For all the information you need, visit the Immunise Australian Program website: www.immunise.health.gov.au

This infographic also explains the new recommendations clearly:

This is all well and good to recommend everyone around a newborn get their booster but unfortunately this is just going to stress pregnant women like me out when our husbands and family members can't get the vaccine due to a supply shortage at the moment.

I am due in less than a week and my parents have been waiting for the vaccine for 3 weeks already and have been told they may not get it til the end of April at the earliest. I was only just able to get my husband the vaccine and that took me weeks to track down.

I am all for vaccinations but the suppliers need to get their act together to deal with the demand

My wife in
2011 was recommended NOT to be vaccinated during pregnancy with our first child
by our doctor as is was deemed not safe. Less than 4 years later its now recommend,
where are references made to documents and independent studies that show this
has been adequately tested without any conflict of interest with the vaccine
manufacturers and researchers? Show us the REAL evidence! Just because the
above info says its safe and very effective doesn't mean it is, what are the
long terms implications, has anyone studied this over a decade to prove it IS
safe? When children are born with deformities, allergies, brain damage etc they
the medical industry will NEVER admit or potentially link the vaccines with
these issues that mother or babies may have. Its a huge business. My doctor
told my wife that she would prescribe her panadene forte as she was having
regular headaches and told her to come see her if they persisted, most doctors
these days don't LISTEN or CARE about you, the more sick people there are the more
profitable business is for pharmaceuticals. This type of treatment and solution
by our ex-doctor can be administered by a chimpanzee as it takes no skills of
listening, understanding but providing a band aid for the solution. People wake
up, this is the 21st century, our civil rights are being taken away from under
our noses without many of us even realising it. It's only a matter of time when
these shots will become mandatory and then no longer will we be able to say
Australia is a free country! Ask your doctor questions and if they do not come
back to you with an answer which you are comfortable with or your gut instinct
is telling you something different seek more alternative answers from other
sources.
