Last night we watched Abbie Chatfield’s heart break in half on national television.

The Bachelor finale is always two parts joyful one part gut wrenching and this season it was Abbie’s turn to be turned away at the final hurdle.

“The only way I can describe this moment is complete and utter shock. I was numb,” the 23-year-old wrote on her Instagram last night after the finale aired.

“I couldn’t and didn’t want to feel anything. I had felt for weeks that what Matt and I had was real and I trusted him wholeheartedly when he told me how he felt about me.”

In Abbie’s lengthy caption she describes forgetting that the cameras were even there to a point, that’s until Matt broke her heart right at the end.

“Hearing Matt say “my heart is with someone else” reminded me that we were filming and that Matt had to make a difficult decision and he did not see me in the way I saw him,” she wrote.

The only way I can describe this moment is complete and utter shock. I was numb. I couldn’t and didn’t want to feel anything. I had felt for weeks that what Matt and I had was real and I trusted him wholeheartedly when he told me how he felt about me. From Hometowns, I forgot the cameras were there. It didn’t feel like we were filming a show at all, it felt like we had this real relationship built in a little bubble of “The Bachelor” and we would be out soon and able to live a normal life. Hearing Matt say “my heart is with someone else” reminded me that we were filming and that Matt had to make a difficult decision, and he did not see in me what I saw in him. I felt silly for ever imagining Matt would love me. It was like emotional whiplash. I was so confused and it felt like I was in a dystopian reality. The second the cameras turned off, I sobbed. I screamed. I couldn’t breathe. I didn’t think think this would be how we would end. I spent weeks crying about this relationship that had almost no closure. I still haven’t fully healed from my relationship with Matt, but I know he and the gorgeous woman he is with are happy, and that’s all that matters. #thebachelorau

During the show, Abbie appeared expressionless as she digested Matt’s rejection before appearing to get annoyed asking him “can you explain further why?”

“It’s not anything that was wrong or missing, it’s just that my heart belongs with someone else,” was the reply.

“It’s completely heartbreaking, completely absolutely heartbreaking, it’s really overwhelming,” Abbie said.

“I brought you here because there was a real connection,” Matt said. “Ok, as long as you’re happy,” replied Abbie with a kiss on the cheek and a “get me the f*** away from him I want to go home” as she made her way to the car.

From there it was a rollercoaster of emotion, which is what Abbie describes in her Instagram post as “emotional whiplash”.

"It's ok, I am so completely fine, I feel fine, I am mostly mad about the flight home now. I am honestly not upset, it's fine. I couldn't even cry if I tried - maybe I don't love him? Like honestly maybe I don't, I am not even upset. I am going to be over this before it airs," she says in the car.

"I am just embarrassed and now I am going to have to home," she says breaking down in tears. "I feel silly for thinking it would work out with Matt."

"I spent weeks crying about this relationship that had almost no closure, I still haven't fully healed from my relationship with Matt, but I know he and the gorgeous woman he is with are happy, and that's all that matters," was Abbie's final line on Instagram.

On Friday morning, Abbie appeared on the Kyle and Jackie O show, and Kyle - being Kyle - took the opportunity to tell her about all the sex Matt and Chelsie have been having.

"Listen, get over him," Kyle told her. "Because I asked those two this morning what their first [time having] sex was like, and apparently they were on a couch in a hotel in South Africa."

"They were making out and feeling each other, then he lifted her up and took her to the bedroom. He took all his clothes off and [they slept together], so you need to move on as well," he continued.

After hearing Kyle's, erm, unnecessary description, Abbie started to cry.

Earlier in the interview she admitted she'd cried for four months straight.
