1. Which radio duo are calling it a day?
They’re Melbourne’s top radio show, but they’ve announced that they’re calling it quits.
Yes, The Matt and Jo Show is coming to an end.
Melbourne breakfast radio duo, Matt Tilley and Jo Stanley, announced on-air this morning that they will be wrapping up at the end of the year to “embrace new opportunities” in 2014.
The Matt and Jo Show has aired on FOX FM for ten years, and has topped Melbourne’s breakfast radio ratings for the past six.
Speaking after the announcement, Jo said:
I’ve loved our off air team, who have all supported us through thick and thin. And I’ve loved our listeners, who have made me laugh, cry and grow as a person more than I could have ever dreamed possible at the start of this journey. But together we’ve made this decision because, after a decade, it’s time for new challenges.
My creative drive is greater than it’s ever been. I can’t wait to start ticking the boxes of the half-finished projects and grand ideas I’ve had clogging up my to-do list. It’s a sad end of an amazing chapter of my life, but a very exciting beginning!
Matt said:
Jo’s quote pretty much covers it all. No doubt it has been a privilege for her and Troy and the fabulous Adam to work with me. And yes, I have tolerated a lot. Being a genius who thinks he’s always right and enjoys talking over people is a gift that I am thankful for, but nonetheless it is a challenge to share that gift with lesser types each day. Do I see myself having a future in AM talkback radio – whatever would give you that idea?
They’re the second big Melbourne radio duo to call it quits this year, with Nova’s Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek announcing their show’s conclusion earlier this month.
Happy trails, guys!
2. Sinead O’Connor offers Miley heartfelt advice. Miley responds as ungratefully as possible.
Sinead O’Connor, of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ fame, penned an open letter to Miley Cyrus yesterday, after she heard that Cyrus’ new video ‘Wrecking Ball’ video was inspired by her hit 80’s song. They are pretty similar. Take a look:
Here’s a few quotes from O’Connor’s open letter on her blog:
Dear Miley,
I wasn’t going to write this letter, but today i’ve been dodging phone calls from various newspapers who wished me to remark upon your having said in Rolling Stone your Wrecking Ball video was designed to be similar to the one for Nothing Compares… So this is what I need to say… And it is said in the spirit of motherliness and with love.

I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way ‘cool’ to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos. It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether its the music business or yourself doing the pimping.

“You are worth more than your body or your sexual appeal. The world of showbiz doesn’t see things that way, they like things to be seen the other way, whether they are magazines who want you on their cover, or whatever.. Don’t be under any illusions.. ALL of them want you because they’re making money off your youth and your beauty.. which they could not do except for the fact your youth makes you blind to the evils of show business. If you have an innocent heart you can’t recognise those who do not.”

You also said in Rolling Stone that your look is based on mine. The look I chose, I chose on purpose at a time when my record company were encouraging me to do what you have done. I felt I would rather be judged on my talent and not my looks. I am happy that I made that choice, not least because I do not find myself on the proverbial rag heap now that I am almost 47 yrs of age.. which unfortunately many female artists who have based their image around their sexuality, end up on when they reach middle age.
Miley responded to O’Connor’s letter by making light of her mental illness and previous suicide attempts. Because CLASSY:

I don't think Brooke Sheilds is being 'bitter' about her divorce at all when she points out Andre Agassi statements. Making a statement that he would have made their divorce much more difficult if they had of had children is a real threat and shows the sort of person he actually is/was. Parents who use the children involved in a seperation/divorce to hurt the other parent have real issues and cause extensive damage to all involved.
Haters to the left, I love Britney's new video. Compared to the robot-like videos we've had in the last few years, here she's actually dancing (rejoice the return of the black dance pants!) and she looks to be in incredible shape. Welcome back, Brit, Love from a shameless fan.
