Melania Trump, her husband's legal drama, and why she's not in sight.

Have a look online, and one of the main things you'll find said about Melania Trump is that she apparently despises her husband. 

Of course, it's complete hearsay. But the general air of disdain that permeated their interactions during his Presidency years didn't exactly quash the noise. 

Now Donald Trump is facing serious charges — some in relation to money he allegedly gave porn star Stormy Daniels to buy her silence about their sexual encounter. And given the encounter happened the year after Trump married Melania, it's not been a great time for Melania.

For a while now, things haven't exactly appeared peachy in the spotlight.

Looking back at her time inside the White House, many felt as though Melania wasn't exactly thrilled to be there.

Acting as First Lady meant that she was actually required to be near her husband. The photo ops, press tours, residing at the White House together, the pursed lip-smiles as Trump would go off on a political tangent of some sort. Ahh memories.

So when Trump lost the 2020 US Presidential Election, many alleged Melania was busting to get away from the White House, ready to say goodbye to living in close quarters with her husband, and excited to move back to New York.

Despite the rumours and reports of an impending divorce, it didn't happen.

While there have been multiple reality shows, a 'grabbing-by-the-pussy' scandal, a four-year stint in the White House, two rounds of attempted impeachments and now these serious charges against the former president, Melania and Donald have surprisingly stood the test of time.

Melania still spends a decent amount of time with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate, reportedly due to their son Barron's education. Insiders allege the couple, although living together in the Palm Beach mansion, conduct separate lives and only come together for the occasional family dinner.

One of the most recent times they've officially been seen together was at a New Year's Eve event at Mar-a-Lago home.

That's despite numerous public events this year being held by Trump — many in relation to his bid to run for President again. She is still supporting his bid though, saying in an interview last year: "I support my husband’s decision to run for President of this wonderful nation."

But perhaps most telling is the fact Melania has been AWOL amidst Trump's legal challenges in the last month.

This week, Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records after an investigation into hush money paid to adult film star, Stormy Daniels. Trump has denied having had sexual relationships with Daniels.  

Trump is the first sitting or former US president to face criminal charges. Interestingly, the former first lady was not named among the group who travelled from Florida to New York onboard Trump's private plane by The New York Times.

On Tuesday, Trump delivered a prime-time post-arrest speech at his Mar-a-Lago home. Most of his family were in attendance, except for Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump who were in Wyoming to celebrate Passover.

But Melania and Barron were nowhere to be seen. Nor was Melania mentioned in Trump's speech, even though he made a point to name everyone else in his close circle as having supported him through this time.

As for what Melania does with her time now, a source said to People: "She is a doting mother to Barron and very protective of him.

"Of course she is worried and concerned about the legal issues but she has not done anything more to protect Barron now than she ever did. She has always put him first. She is a good mother. She is surrounded by people who love her and who never talk about reality, or bad things about her husband."

It's a somewhat similar story for Ivanka Trump as well, who confirmed she would be stepping away from politics and being a political advisor for her dad amid his next Presidential bid. 

A 'close source' for Ivanka then gave a comment to People, shortly after the article on Melania. 

"Even though Ivanka loves her dad, she knows how impossible he can be. Donald does what he wants, and she can't help him now. She is recreating her business life and raising her children, which are her priorities."

It comes after former Melania aide and friend Stephanie Winston Wolkoff — who previously claimed Melania refers to Daniels as "the porn hooker" — told Page Six: "Melania lives in an ivory tower of denial."

She said of Melania's absence: "I never expected to see her there. Her silence is deliberate, it is her weapon of choice and her protective armour.

"Of course she knows about Donald's affairs, she knows everything. But her silence is her dignity. She will stand by her husband, as she always does. I don't think Melania is humiliated by his affairs — but she is angry. This is a transactional marriage."

Ultimately, it appears that Melania is trying to live a Trump-free life. But her husband keeps getting in the way.
