Sometimes shit happens and often its hard to find the reason and impossible to find the light.
It’s at those times that we need to look at the world around us from a different angle to see all the nuances and perhaps allow some light in. And what better way than saying thank you? We have done it before on Mamamia and it has been hugely popular.
The concept is inspired by the gorgeous Thxthxthx blog, run by US creative director Louise Dietrich, who regularly writes a thank-you note to something in her life – no matter how small or odd – as a daily exercise in gratitude. She also has a book coming out, which you can preorder here.)
Here is an example from her blog this week…
and to start you off here is my Thank You
Dear Two Funerals That I Had To Attend This Week
Thank you for showing me how lucky I am to have friends and family around me, thank you for showing me what is really important and for allowing me to take the opportunity to tell the people that I love how much I love them. Thank you also for forcing me to stop and take stock.
Love Lana
What are you thankful for? Try and find something – it may be totally obscure and ridiculous or it may shout out at you. Name it and thank it, hey why don’t you even write it a note?

Thank you to my boss for her unprofessional management style and lack of support and for saying two key things: that my work comes a poor second to my family and that I have poor self awareness about my capacity to work (this being in the context of 2010....when my daughter nearly died in hospital, when we experienced two deaths in the family and when I later came down with pneumonia, and more). Thank you, because I have chosen to take my long service leave and leave without pay for a whole year, and I'm enjoying this gift that I now have - my health, time with my two children, time to just be and to realise that the 'superwoman' is unrealistic and that's ok! I've never been happier!
Dear Coffee
Thankyou for slowly giving me the ability to become less like a zombie as the day goes on due to no sleep last night.
Forever greatful, Amy
