Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield's new rom-com is going to kill us. And probably her.

When the first official trailer for Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh's new film We Live In Time was released, the collective gasp was heard around the world.

We are SO back. In fact, this might be the most back we've ever been. What am I talking about? I'm talking about the return of a niche cinematic genre known vaguely as "death trope romance movies." Think The Fault In Our Stars, Me Before You, and A Walk To Remember. In many ways, we can also include the cinematic masterpiece that is About Time.

And who could forget Anne Hathaway's film One Day, a tale that recently resurfaced thanks to the new television series of the same name. The love story of Emma and Dexter skyrocketed to number one on Netflix, with viewers calling for more projects like this

It seems the people yearn for sad love stories. And Pugh and Garfield are prepared to serve us devastating romance on a silver platter in We Live In Time.

However, the cast were recently upstaged when a new promotional image dropped on socials and forever altered our lives.

In a new photo, Pugh and Garfield are seen being all lovey dovey on a merry-go-round, with a particularly jaunty horse pictured in frame. And he's stealing the show, I'm sorry to say to these Oscar nominated actors.

The ugly carousel horse quickly picked up across social media yesterday, with people on X (Twitter) posting photoshopped versions of this breakout star.

He's taking over the whole scene; he's been photoshopped into The Godfather, he's making a cameo in Gladiator II, he's being reimagined as the horse from Spirit. Most importantly, he's featuring on Beyonce's 'Renaissance' album cover. A slay if ever there was one!

Is horse discourse the new marketing craze set to sweep Hollywood? I mean, it's working. We're all talking about the movie. What I wouldn't give to have been in the production room when they deliberated on whether or not they share this photo with the world. I'm glad they made the right call.

A selection of my personal favourite edits can be seen below, please appreciate them for the artworks that they are. Then keep reading to find out what this movie is all about (and when you can watch it!).

What is We Live In Time about?

Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias (Andrew Garfield) are brought together by a surprise encounter that changes their lives: she runs him over with her car. Talk about a meet-cute.

Through a series of snapshots of their life together - falling in love, staring longingly across rooms at each other, becoming a family - a shocking truth is revealed. As shown in the first trailer, Almut is diagnosed with an illness that threatens her life.

"As they embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken, in filmmaker John Crowley's decade-spanning, deeply moving romance," the synopsis reads.

Is there a trailer for We Live In Time?

There's no time like the past, present, and future. That's the message we're delivered in the first trailer, released on July 11, which offers up glimpses of what is sure to be a heartbreaking, sob-inducing love story.

"There’s something mummy and I want to talk to you about," Garfield’s character tells their daughter in the opening moments of the trailer, followed by Pugh adding "It's a bit serious though."

With montages of their lives passing by, interspersed with snippets of gut-wrenching dialogue - Pugh's delivery of "I can't bear the thought of being forgotten" will haunt my dreams - fans were, understandably, left in tears thanks to the trailer.

Watch below, story continues after video.

Pugh's Instagram post was met with thousands of comments, from fans and famous friends alike.

Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham commented, "You two are gonna break me with this!"

Australian actress Teresa Palmer said "Omg two of my favs in a love story swoooooon."

While Jodie Turner Smith wrote "CANNOT WAIT TO WATCH THIS!!!!" surrounded by crying emojis
