If winter is getting you down, these images will make it feel like summer again.

Welcome to Mamamia’s art endeavour, the Voulez-Vous Project. Every week we celebrate emerging artists, designers, illustrators, creators and women who knit using their vaginas. (Kidding. Maybe.)

The aim: to make the internet a slightly more beautiful, captivating, or thought-provoking place. To find out more about the Voulez-Vous project, click here.

This week’s featured artist in the Voulez-Vous Project is Anya Brock, who creates big, bright and courageous paintings.

Anya originally got her start in the fashion industry, and ran high-end label ANAN for eight years – but while working in London for Christopher Kane and Richard Nicoll she discovered her love of painting. She relocated to Bondi in Sydney in 2013, and continues to paint on both walls and canvases by the beach.

“I employ a range of materials and techniques in my work — experimentation is at the heart of what I do, so I’m constantly challenging myself with new ways of expressing different subject matter,” Anya says. “I mainly work in acrylics and sometimes pen and charcoal and lately I’m experimenting with inks and enamel. I think creating accidents or problems to solve is the whole point of living a creative life. Problem solving is what keeps you active in the mind.”

Anya’s work often seems to focus on figures and female faces, and she says that this may be because she “worked in fashion for about 9 years- you’re constantly met with the female face.”

“Also, because I love what you can express through a face. I like that the females I create are often multidimensional, expressing many facets of femininity at one time.”

If you’d like to see more on Anya’s work (or even look into purchasing a piece!) you can visit her website here, her Facebook page hereher Twitter account here, and on Instagram at @anyapaintface.

Anya is also opening a gallery in Sydney, which will open on the 4th July at 461 OXFORD ST, PADDINGTON. Opening night is 4th July 6-8pm.
