The entire world knows Vanessa Hudgens just welcomed her first child. She never got to share it.

Vanessa Hudgens is officially a mum, though she didn't get the chance to announce the news the way she had hoped.

Every mother understands the vulnerability of giving birth, and for Hudgens, 35, the privacy of herself and her child was deeply violated when paparazzi snapped photos of her and father Cole Tucker leaving the hospital.

On Thursday, images of Hudgens cradling her baby in a wheelchair quickly circulated through various outlets, even though Hudgens had not publicly announced the birth.

The High School Musical star has now issued a scathing statement, saying her "family's privacy was disrespected and exploited."

"We're disappointed that our family's privacy was disrespected and exploited during this very special time due to the greed of a long lens camera feeding the media," she wrote on her Instagram Story on Friday morning.

"Despite all of that, mom, dad and baby are happy and healthy."

Tucker reposted his wife's message on his own Instagram Story. Neither Hudgens nor Tucker have disclosed additional details, such as the name and gender of their newborn.

The couple, who began dating in November 2020, tied the knot in December last year in Tulum, Mexico. The 28-year-old baseball player proposed to Hudgens in Paris earlier that year, prompting Hudgens to share on Instagram, "YES. We couldn't be happier."

The news came as a pleasant surprise to fans, especially since prior to meeting Tucker, Hudgens had dated actor Austin Butler for eight years before their split in 2020.

Hudgens and Tucker maintain a private profile, having requested their wedding guests to refrain from using devices during the ceremony. Fans only learned of their marriage after the event was over.

"It was genuinely the most magical weekend of my life," she told Vogue at the time. "I am so grateful that we got to have a private wedding, and it helped that I took everyone’s phones away."

"It was amazing because at the dinner, I would look around and everyone was talking to each other — our family and friend groups coming together and creating real relationships… Seeing that and bringing everyone together and celebrating us, it was just so magical."

Similarly, the new mum opted to keep her pregnancy discreet, revealing it during the Oscars in March when she was already heavily pregnant.

Hudgens graced the red carpet in a sleek, fitted black gown, proudly displaying her growing baby bump. Later, at the Vanity Fair Oscars Afterparty, she opted for a more daring look, showcasing her bump in a sheer dress.

Here's hoping the new parents can share more details about their baby when they're ready, and in their own way.
