Just under 10 seconds is all it took for Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt to win the men’s 100m final – and set a new Olympic Record of 9.63 seconds. Seven of the eight men in the race ran it in less than 10 seconds – Yohan Blake, Justin Gatlin and Ryan Baile all record personal bests but it wasn’t enough to stop Bolt from defending his title.
In other Olympic news that happened over the weekend, Britain’s Andy Murray won the men’s tennis final, cyclist Anna Meares made it to the quarter finals in the sprint, the women’s water polo team defeated China in the quarter final and Michael Diamond shot well in the diamond trap. He’s now leading the field after the first three rounds of qualifying.
Mitchell Watt tells the media to “wake up”
Are the Australian athletes disappointed with their performance at this year’s Olympic Games? Or is the media putting words into their mouths? Mitchell Watt – who won a silver medal in the long jump over the weekend hit out at the media during a press conference yesterday.
“The team is happy, I’m happy, the head coach is happy, I’ve got thousands of messages from back home that are happy and the only people that aren’t happy are you guys,” he said. “You need to wake up.”
Australia has now won one gold medal, 12 silver medals and 7 bronze medals at the games. Watt was one of the athletes thought to be a “gold medal chance”.
“I was pretty aware there was a gold medal tag around my neck. I was asked by a journalist over there, the first thing he said was that’s disappointing and then asked why Australia seems to be not doing well. I said it’s questions like that that make it seem like we’re not doing well,” he said at the press conference.

I'm 100% behind Mitchell Watt. A silver medal should be celebrated and not derided by the media. Good on you Mitchell. I hope you go from strength to strength.
Here are some of my favorite Olympic moments (shamelessly stolen from the Twittersphere and interweb).

Ok so did anyone else see the Men's team archery final? United States got silver and when they went up on the podium they were wearing the most hideous outfits I have ever seen at the olympics (Maybe slight exaggeration but they were BAD!)
Big bomber style jackets in gross brown that looked like they belonged to NASA astronauts with baggy jeans with a nike tick in the same brown. On their feet were massive skate shoes in the gross brown again.
I haven't seen them since so was it just an archery thing or is it a spare uniform? lol
