Parents arrested after twin baby girls found skeletal and crawling with maggots.

The parents of infant twin girls found in horrific conditions in Tulsa, Oklahoma have been arrested.

Kevin Fowler, 25, and Aislyn Miller, 24, were arrested on Saturday afternoon on two counts of child abuse, Tulsa-based news service KTUL reports.

Police were sent to their home on Friday to investigate after a nurse described the girl’s condition as the “worst case of child abuse” they had ever seen.

The nurse told police that one of the babies looked like a “skeleton” and she had seen a maggot crawl out of one the babies’ genitalia. She was suffering severe nappy rash, bed sores and had feces in her ear, according to Owasso police.

Her sister was also found in a horrific condition.

Owasso police say the other twin was extremely skinny, had a major nappy rash and bed sores. They said a hair was wrapped around her finger so tightly that it had started getting infected and skin was growing over it.

When police questioned Folwer and Miller over their children's condition the couple said they were "new parents" and inexperienced in taking care of babies.

The mother added that the twins were born premature, pointing to that as the reason for their children's poor health.

The parents acknowledged some of their daughter's health concerns and said they did not know how to get them proper care.

They said they did not have health insurance for their children and could not afford medical bills, with Miller adding that they had not seen a doctor since they were born.

Fowler and Miller are being held in the Tulsa County Jail on a US$50,000 (A$66,900) bond.

So you see your child with bed sores and other horrible things and yet you don't think to ask your family or friends for help if you cannot afford to take them to the doctor or take care of them properly?
