There was something very suspicious about Donald Trump's Inauguration cake.

OK Trumps, we get it. You want to be the Obama’s. WE ALL DO. But this is just getting ridiculous.

First Melania plagiarised Michelle’s speech, and then Trump used a photo from Obama’s 2009 inauguration as his Twitter cover photo, and now we have #CakeGate.

Yep, the cake at Trump’s inauguration looks suspiciously familiar. Like we’ve seen the exact same cake somewhere before.

Last night celebrity chef Duff Goldman, from the TV show Ace of Cakes, posted a photo on Twitter of two cakes side-by-side.

The cake on the left was the one Goldman created for Obama’s 2013 inauguration — the second was the cake from Trump’s inauguration yesterday.

“While we most love creating original designs, when we are asked to replicate someone else’s work we are thrilled when it is a masterpiece like this one.”

“Best part is all the profits are being donated to @humanrightscampaign, one of our favorite charities who we have loved working with over the years. Because basic human rights are something every man, woman and child – straight, gay or the rainbow in between – deserve!” she added.

In an interview with the Washington Post, MacIsaac admitted that she tried to convince the Trump team to only use the cake as inspiration, but they insisted they wanted the “exact cake, it’s perfect”.

Goldman has since taken to Twitter to praise the Buttercream Bakeshop and try to calm down some of the controversy around #CakeGate.

Well you know what they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery, and the Obama’s must be feeling so flattered right now.

It's nice that Duff Goldman is happy to have his artistic efforts plagiarised. However, to my eyes it's a hot mess of tackiness.
