1. Mum makes a heart-wrenching decision: risk the lives of her triplets or let one of her babies die.

Earlier this year, Perth couple Chloe and Rohan Dunstan were faced with a decision no parent should have to consider. According to Mail Online, the Dunstans — who naturally conceived triplets — were told by doctors to choose between terminating their baby girl in order to save the two boys, or delivering all three at only 28 weeks.

While the couple’s two baby boys were thriving in the womb, their baby girl was deprived of oxygen and essential nutrients, which meant that the chance of her survival was impossible if the pregnancy was carried out full term. Ms Dunstan opted for the early delivery, and all three babies were delivered on July 3. “I will live with guilt for the rest of my life for being responsible for giving them a disadvantaged start at life – but I feel the guilt and sadness of letting her go would have been much greater,” she said. “I just feel like she deserved a chance.” The babies are currently okay, but will remain in hospital for the following months.

2. Man jailed for marrying off 12-year-old daughter.

A man from New South wales has been sentenced to a minimum of six years in prison after he married off his daughter in an Islamic ceremony. The man, 63, sought and permitted the marriage of his 12-year-old daughter to a 26-year-old man last year. According to ABC News, Judge Deborah Sweened said the offences could not be excused by the man’s faith. The courts previously heard the girl had miscarried after falling pregnant during the marriage. Earlier this year, the girl’s “husband” was sentenced to more than seven years in prison.

3. Man who staged a siege in WA is identified as escaped psychiatric patient.

A man who seized a hostage and staged a 12-hour siege in a Western Australia last night has been identified as David Charles Batty, an alleged escapee from a Perth psychiatric hospital.

Batty, 53, has been missing from Graylands Psychiatric Hospital since June 2014, Mail Online reports. The siege came to a dramatic end this morning after the hostage was set free and Batty was subsequently arrested.

4. Amy Schumer ticket sales crash website.

It’s official: Australians are wild for comedian Amy Schumer. Schumer recently announced she would do a single show in Melbourne on June 22nd, and the tickets went on sale at 10am this morning on the Arts Centre Melbourne website.

Fans were quickly disappointed when the site crashed due to the onslaught of web traffic, due to the sheer number of online fans hoping to secure their tickets to Schumer’s stand-up performance. The Herald Sun reports some were able to secure tickets the old-fashioned way, by calling the Arts Centre. Nevertheless, the show was sold out within an hour. Schumer’s comedy show, Inside Amy Schumer, is aired on Comedy Central in Australia.

5. Man found guilty of The Dark Knight cinema massacre.

The man who opened fire on a Colorado cinema in 2012 has been found guilty, a jury announced today.

The 2012 shooting killed 12 people and injured dozens more at a screening of Batman film The Dark Knight Rises. Fairfax Media reports 27-year-old James Holmes could face the death penalty or life imprisonment for his crimes. Holmes pleaded not guilty to the murder charges, but the jury unanimously found him guilty of murder, attempted murder and for possessing or controlling an explosive device, CNN reports.

6. Post-mortem results released.

Police have spoken about the results of a port-mortem investigation into the remains of a child discovered in a suitcase.

They have also released a number of images of clothing discovered in the suitcase alongside the remains.

Detective Superintendent Bray of South Australia Police said this afternoon: “There is no doubt the child had a violent, horrible death.”

He added the child’s death was not very recent.

“The child definitely didn’t die within recent months,” he said.

The remains, clothing and case were found at Wynarka, about 150km east of Adelaide in the Murray Mallee region, on Wednesday.

Police said the child was believed to have been aged between three and give at the age of death, but that the gender of the child won’t be known until early next week.

While the clothing in the suitcase looked to belong to a little girl, police said that did not indicate the child discovered in the suitcase was a girl. He also said the clothing may not have belonged to the child, and that clothing of different sizes had been found.

The Daily Mail reports that any link between the child’s remains and the disappearance of NSW toddler William Tyrrell will not be determined until the DNA results of the bones are determined.

However, Bray said there was nothing that led him to believe Tyrrell had any link to the child’s remains.

Police’s investigations remain centred on a man in his 60s who was spotted carrying a suitcase in the area six to eight weeks ago.

Police are renewing their appeal for information that may lead to the identity of a man seen walking along the Karoonda Highway, carrying a dark suitcase, about 8am one morning about six to eight weeks ago. He is described as being aged about 60, of Caucasian appearance, average height, lightly built, clean cut and neatly dressed. He was not a local.
