The replacements for triple j breakfast radio hosts Matt and Alex have been revealed.

ABC’s triple j has announced the replacements for outgoing breakfast show hosts Matt Okine and Alex Dyson next year.

Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton will take over from the iconic radio duo who yesterday announced their plans to step down from the show at the end of 2016.

Harvey, 23, and Stapelton, 20 – or ‘Ben and Liam‘ as they will most likely be known – both come from South Australia and will start their new gig on January 9.

The two currently host a breakfast show at radio community radio station Fresh FM in Adelaide.

The pair understandably seems to be excited about moving to a national audience.

“Considering just two years ago I was listening to triple j from a tractor on a dairy farm, I’m super stoked to have the opportunity to host triple j breakfast with my mate Liam,” Harvey said in a statement.

“Even if he does wear the skinniest drain pipe jeans I’ve ever seen.”

Stapelton added: “In Year 2 I was cast as a rock in the Easter play so I really didn’t expect to be doing a national breakfast show at 20.”

The duo has comedy experience, having competed in Australia’s biggest open mic competition, Raw Comedy, earlier this year.  They also hosted a show at Adelaide Fringe Festival called Ben and Liam’s big night of wiffy banter.

Triple j content director Ollie Wards told news.com.au the duo would also be joined by a wide cast of weekly contributors on the show, including sports star Dylan Alcott and comedian Gen Fricker.

The breakfast radio cameos won’t be the only gigs for Alcott and Fricker at the station.

Alcott, a Paralympian, will host triple j weekend afternoons, taking over from Kyran Wheatley who is leaving to pursue other interests.

Triple j Lunch host Lewis McKirdy is also departing, for to the UK, and will be replaced by Fricker.
