Today’s Good News post is brought to you by Vaalia.
For the next four weeks we’ll be bringing you a little dose of good news. Sometimes when we turn on the TV, radio or open a newspaper, it feels like everything in the world is just sad and wrong. But there are pockets of delight and happiness, which we’ll be uncovering and bringing to you.
Birth announcements bring all the warm and fuzzy feelings – but this one will put an even bigger smile on your face.
Last September, after 19 years of living as a girl, Jes Oliver revealed to his parents he had never identified as a woman and intended to live his life as a transgender man.
As many of us do in the wake of life’s big moments, Jes’ mother, Jodi Gholson Oliver, took to Facebook to share the news with her friends and family – and she did it in the most heart-warming way possible. Jodi announced the ‘birth’ of her son, and explained that Jes – born Jessica – was now able to “feel like the person he was born to be”.
Jodi’s words radiate with love, pride, and above all, a deep understanding and support of her son. It seems Jes loved his mum’s post as much as we do – he posted it on Tumblr, writing: “Heck yeah, mom.”
Unsurprisingly, Jodi’s birth announcement has been a hit online, and the original Facebook post has since attracted hundreds of likes. In a follow-up comment, Jodi wrote: “I admire Jes for being brave enough to walk to the beat of his own drum all his life.”
Amen to that.

So amazing! I wish all LGBTI kids had such amazingly wonderful and supportive parents. Jes is a truly lucky guy. :)
