How Tony Armstrong met his partner, Rona Glynn-McDonald.

When it comes to Aussie celebrities, you don't get much more universally beloved than Tony Armstrong.

It comes as no surprise, then, that he's secured multiple nominations at the 2024 TV Week Logie Awards.

This year, he's scored nominations for 'Most Popular Presenter' and the big one: the Gold Logie. If he wins this year, his award/s will join the Bert Newton-anointed Logie he won in 2023, as well as the 'Best New Talent' Logie he won in 2022 that are already on his mantlepiece.

Tony Armstrong is the man of the moment which could have people wondering: does he have a special someone by his side, aka are we still in with a chance? I have bad news for you.

Is Tony Armstrong single?

Nope!

Tony Armstrong is happily dating Rona Glynn-McDonald.

Who is Tony Armstrong's partner?

Rona Glynn-McDonald is a multi-talented individual who is the CEO of First Nations not-for-profit Common Ground, the director of non-profit First Nations Future and a DJ, nurse and teacher to boot.

Rona is of Indigenous heritage and has dedicated much of her career to advocating for First Nations rights and amplifying First Nations voices.

She's a busy bee, as when she's not working alongside Indigenous communities, she performs under the artist name RONA, and she has played at major Australian festivals like Falls Festival and Splendour in the Grass.

Glynn-McDonald's impressive work has not gone unnoticed. She was named 'Woman of the Future' by Women's Weekly, recognising her impressive contributions.

So yep, she's a big deal.

The couple was first spotted together at a Rufus Du Sol concert in November 2022, but they officially hard-launched their relationship on Instagram in late 2023.

In July 2024, they did a (hot as hell) cover shoot for Stellar where they opened up about their relationship. The couple joked in the interview what their couple name could be.

"A good friend of mine, her stepdaughters had a name… They wanted it to be 'Rony', and then I think another party wanted it to be 'Tona'," Rona said.

"I’ve got nothing. We’ll go with Rony for now," added Tony.

Luckily for us nosy Nellies, the couple told Stellar exactly how they got together.

"Tony stalked me," Rona joked. "That’s how I always respond to that question. We didn’t know a lot about each other [before meeting]. We kind of had been operating in similar-ish circles."

To this, Tony added they were "probably just on the edge of each other’s circle, to be honest".

Ultimately, they finally connected when Tony attended Rona's gig and the couple considers their meeting as serendipitous.

"We realised after meeting that there were so many moments where our lives should have crossed many years before. Many moments — whether it was gigs, at the same place at the same time — but it never happened. I feel like it happened in the moment that it was meant to," Rona said.

Both Tony and Rona admitted they were nervous about going public with hard-launching their relationship back in 2023.

"I was really nervous in the lead-up. Given the way people speak about Tony as 'Australia's husband' or 'everyone's boyfriend', I was ready for the death threats. I was ready to break hearts. We talked about it for months and months and months and it just felt right. We were sitting on the couch and we were like, “You know what? Now is the moment," Rona admitted to Stellar.

"I was nervous too, to be honest," Tony added. "It's pretty weird having … well, not 'having to' — we didn't have to do anything, but being in a relationship where it becomes a public thing. I’m a bit nervous even talking about it in retrospect because I like my privacy as well. I’ve realised as I get older in the public eye, you can’t get it back. Once you’ve given that bit of you away, that’s out there, that’s gone."

Thankfully, their reservations were mostly unfounded.

"The positive response was overwhelming," Rona said. "I think straight away, like half an hour later, some people were writing up articles saying I had great hair. I’d never thought of myself as someone with great hair but they were giving me slogans and saying really lovely things."

Rona Glynn-McDonald's background

Rona is a proud Kaytetye woman who grew up in Mparntwe on Arrernte Country. "My family have been in Alice Springs for many generations. It’s a beautiful place in the world on Arrernte country. It’s a complex place," she told Stellar.

"I come from a family of storytellers and filmmakers [so] from a young age, I saw the power of camera lenses and creating space for our communities to tell our stories our own ways as a form of healing and a form of resistance. That love of storytelling is something that Tony and I really share."

She has a degree in economics, is an in-demand DJ in the electronica space, she's the CEO of Common Ground, a non-profit organisation that works to amplify First Nations voices, and a director of non-profit First Nations Future, which collaborates with First Nations communities across Australia, and as Tony pointed out in the interview, she's even spoken at the United Nations in the past. No biggie!
