Toddler pulled unconscious from family day care pool dies in hospital.

A toddler found unconscious in a pool at a family daycare centre in Perth has since died in hospital, police have said.

The two-year-old boy was pulled from the pool in the backyard of the Carramar home where the daycare facility was operating.

He was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital for Children where he later died.

WA Police are preparing a report for the coroner.

Community Services Minister Tony Simpson said on Tuesday that the centre would remain closed while the incident was investigated.

The City of Wanneroo also issued a statement that said a pool safety inspection by Royal Life Saving at the Carramar property conducted in March found the pool complied with requirements.

It is not yet known if charges will be laid by the authorities or the parents involved.

There are about 1,500 childcare centres in WA as well as a number of family daycare centres.

They operate under the National Quality Framework applied law system.

The family daycare operator in Carramar was run through approved provider Communicare.

After the incident, Communicare Chief Executive Melissa Perry said the daycare operator had been running the centre for just over 12 months.

Ms Perry said the operator held a valid first aid certificate and the pool at the property was gated and secure.

I don't trust kids and pools. Even with a good fence they are still crafty enough to get a chair or box to stand on and open it. I could never leave my kids by themselves if we had a pool.
