LEIGH CAMPBELL: 'Searching for the perfect pair of winter tights? Here are 9 of my faves.'

Welcome to the Nothing To Wear Edit where each week we curate the best picks from the topic we spoke about on the podcast. Listen to the full episode here.

On this week’s episode of Nothing To Wear, my guest Zara and I answered a bunch of questions submitted by our listeners about winter dressing. Overwhelmingly the most common request was for recommendations for winter tights.

A good pair of tights means you can wear more of your wardrobe all year round thanks to the instant layer of warmth. BUT, not all tights are created equal, so I’ve rounded up the best options for this chilly season.

Bonds Comfy Tops Slimming Very Opaque Tights, $16.99.

If you’re looking for a pair that are truly opaque, these are the ones for you. With a shapewear style core, you can also wear regular undies underneath with little to no VPL.

Ambra Totally Black Opaque Tights, $14.05.

Ambra always offers great quality at a good price. These are 200 denier, so they’re opaque on the leg, however they may appear semi opaque on the bottom when bending (in case you were planning on wearing them as pants).

High Heel Jungle Mercury Tights, $59.

These opaque tights have a shiny finish, reminiscent of the viral Saint Laurent style (minus the price tag). They come in an impressive 15 colours. Pro tip — stick a panty liner into the sole of your pumps so the fabric doesn't make your shoes slippery.

Uniqlo Heat Tech Knitted Tights, $29.90.

Of course my favourite basics store has a great option. These knitted tights are from the Heat Tech range, so they offer lots of warmth. The fabric also has odour absorbing technology.

Marks & Spencer 30 Denier Body Sensor Tights (3 pack), $18.99.

If you’re after a semi-sheer option and wear hosiery often, this set of three is perfect so you've always got a pair on rotation while the others in the wash. The Body Sensor technology cools you down or warms you up depending on your body temperature.

Indestructible Tights, $48.44.

As the name suggests, these tights are tear and ladder resistant, within reason of course. They also have shapewear-like properties with a tummy-smoothing fit around the waist.

Sheertex Classic Sheer Rip-Resist Tights, $60.

A sheer option that still offers durability and the waistband features a light compression. This is the classic cheer style, but they also have an ultra sheer, super sheer and semi-opaque style.

Wolford Floral Net Tights, $105.

Victoria Beckham made floral print tights cool again last winter and now most chain stores are seeing this style for winter. If you want a quality pair that will last more than a few times, it’s impossible to beat the quality of Wolford.

Voodoo Cable Tight, $22.95.

I love the look of a cable knit when the rest of the fabrics you’re wearing are simple. Baklazhan is a fun wine colour, but they also come in classic black and a rich navy colour.
