What is Three Women about?
In 2019, writer Lisa Taddeo set the world on fire with her deeply intoxicating portrayal of the sexual identity of three different women. Throughout the book we learn the stories of Lina, a bored housewife who feels forgotten and begins an affair with an old flame; Sloane, a fiery restaurant owner who is married but engaged in consensual extramarital flings and Maggie, a teenager who finds accuses her married English teacher of being involved in an inappropriate relationship.
Oh, and one other thing? All of these tales are true stories. Taddeo was able to gracefully tell these women's stories by closely following them over the course of 10 years. The result? A searing and boldly accurate portrayal of the nuance of womanhood and the many layers that create our identity.
What was the reception to Three Women?
It’s hard to think of another book that held such a universal chokehold on female readers quite like Three Women did upon its release in 2019. It hit #1 on The New York Times Bestseller’s List and was awarded The British Book Awards Non-Fiction Narrative Book Of The Year.
