The tale is a retelling of an Arthurian legend, set in Great Britain in the period of late antiquity, following the Roman occupation and taking place during the conflict with the Saxons.
This is long before Britain was united — instead, the country was divided into various tribes.
The Winter King focuses on Arthur (played by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D actor, Iain De Caestecker), a bastard son who must fight to become heir to the Dumnonian throne in a powerful story of courage and sacrifice.
The series was filmed in Wales and the West Country, with sets erected in Patchway and Blaise Castle Estate.
We've seen a preview of the epic's first episode and this show is going to be HUGE. This gritty take on the King Arthur legend we all know so well is giving Game of Thrones meets Merlin.
