Why The Voice judges will be wearing the same outfits throughout the season.

For five seasons now, The Voice Australia judges have attracted a great deal of attention for their wardrobe choices, particularly during the Blind Auditions.

In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, here are some visual clues.

Pictured above is Delta Goodrem dramatically listening to three separate blind auditions, on three SEPARATE evenings, on Season Two of The Voice.

Here, please see Jessie J above speaking the truth to three different contestants, on three DIFFERENT episodes, during Season Four of The Voice.

As it turns out, the judges are required to wear the same outfits for every day of filming for the Blind Auditions so the clips can be edited as the producers so choose.

This season, it seems, is no different.

For the last two nights, we've watched the judges swivel in nonsensical novelty-sized chairs while wearing the same goddamn outfits.

Oh, that's funny. It's Monday and they're still wearing the same outfits. (Image courtesy of Channel 9.)

According to my research, the Blind Auditions tend to go on for nine episodes. That means we'll be looking at nothing but Delta's hippy-esque top and Jessie J's magical cape for almost THREE WEEKS.

Don't even get me started on the boys' outfits.

Not only are you gentlemen appearing on television in the same clothing for an obscene period of time, but the clothes you choose are pretty low-key. A black shirt and black pants, Ronan, really?

Watch the best performance of The Voice so far. The contestant chose Jessie J as her coach, obviously. (Post continues after video.)

However, I have an alternative theory about why the judges appear in the same clothes for the first three weeks of the show. Is there blatant evidence against it? Probably. But hear me out.

I think the Blind Auditions really only take place over one day. One loooong day. Which perfectly explains why the judges are wearing the same outfits for all the auditions and why their hair, makeup, and general grooming never changes.

Let's be honest, only a tiny portion of the first nine episodes is taken up by people singing. I'd estimate that 15 minutes per one-hour episode shows an actual audition. The rest is behind-the-scenes takes with the judges, awkward banter, and that depressing anti-smoking ad.

If there are nine episodes, with 15 minutes of auditions, that's only two hours and 15 minutes of the judges actually listening to people sing.

Sure, there's the time in-between auditions, and you've got to factor in lunch breaks and the people who audition and don't make it to air, but still. I'm willing to argue that all the auditions for Season Six of The Voice could feasibly take place over one day.

Either that, or the judges are actually alien-robots who are plugged into their red chairs and don't leave the studio. Ever. They don't need to change clothes because they're not humans. There's a button on the back of the chairs that turns them off, and then someone returns in the morning to turn them back on.

Wait — I'm starting to like that theory a bit better. And going by some of the judges' behaviour so far, it's actually a little more convincing.
