EXCLUSIVE: The truth behind 'that' seriously awkward Bachelorette scene.

When Jourdan broke down during a simple game of ‘never have I ever’ on The Bachelorette premiere all those weeks ago, it’s fair to say it was…. awkward. It was also kind of funny.

Not because a man was showing emotion – but because the whole scenario was completely absurd. Jourdan started crying when asked about cheating, which led Sophie (and Australia) to assume he had been cheated on. But he… hadn’t. There was no cheating whatsoever. He was just having feelings.

Or so it seemed.

Now, in an interview with recently eliminated contestant, Ryan Jones, we’re realising the incident didn’t quite go down in the way we saw it on our screens.

Speaking of how the producers portrayed this season’s contestants, Ryan shared what really happened while we were all scratching our heads.

“Everyone was edited differently in their own way. You look at the likes of Jourdan who obviously had a bit of an emotional battle with something he’d gone through and I know a lot of people didn’t understand why he was upset, but at the end of the day he was still upset. And he copped a lot of flack for that, which is really upsetting,” he told Mamamia.

"We didn't have to understand it, but we just needed to let him know that we were there for him. Which is what we did." (Image: Ten)

When asked if the situation was as awkward and uncomfortable in real life as it was when we watched it, the 26-year-old builder said the fellow contestant's reactions were far more supportive and empathetic than we saw.

"Obviously when you're seeing somebody that upset, you don't always have to understand why they're upset but at the end of the day, they are. We didn't have to understand it, but we just needed to let him know that we were there for him. Which is what we did."

We know, we know. A reality TV episode edited to manipulate our emotions? Groundbreaking, you say. But paired with the borderline non-consensual eye mask incident and an unexplained limp, can we really be blamed for jumping to conclusions?

The answer is yes. We should have known better. Jourdan, if you happen to be reading, we're sorry. We also hope that leg of yours is making a speedy recovery.
