I’m in a breakfast rut. It used to be my favourite meal of the day and now I can barely be bothered to have it. I know, I know, breakfast is the foundation of your day, the source of your daily energy, blah blah blah but I’m Over It.
My breakfast routine has always been that: a routine and I don’t say that in a bad way, being someone who LOVES routine. Unlike dinner, most people have the same thing for breakfast day after day. Perhaps it’s because it’s the busiest meal of the day, the one where we’re most likely to be rushing. Many people eat their breakfast on the run. I’ve gone through phases of eating it in the car. Or at my desk. Mostly at my desk, even when I worked from home. And I always eat my breakfast while doing something else – checking my emails, reading the paper, something.
It’s always a multi-tasking meal.
I never understood people who skipped breakfast. First of all, it’s FUN. All those carbs! And secondly, I used to be STARVING in the morning. But now, not so much. Maybe because I don’t exercise in the morning anymore and have less time than I’ve ever had to prepare my breakfast.
But it’s more than that – I’m just not that into anything. I’ve never been a toast morning eater. More a cereal girl. I used to have a wardrobe of different varieties. I’m also partial to porridge but even that isn’t doing it for me.
Smoothies? More of a summer thing.
I stumbled across these three bits of inspiration on Louise Bell’s Table Tonic blog. It seems I’m not the only one with the breakfast blahs.
What do you have for breakfast? Same thing every day? Inspire me……

I hate having the same food for breakfast every morning. For a great alternative, I make a large batch of Balsamic & Basil mushrooms using 3 types of fungi...oyster, swiss brown & shitake or any other available mushroom. This can be frozen in smaller portions & reheated when desired. Served on lightly toasted fresh sourdough bread. It's filing & healthy.
Has to be honey porridge with 1/2 punnet of strawberries sprinkled with raw sugar and a cappuccino.
Or for a treat (once a fortnight) Artesian bread toasted with home made strawberry jam from my local cafe..divine!
