Not all is well on The Block.
Just weeks ago The Block Glasshouse super-relaxed couple Maxine and Karstan revealed some beautiful wedding plans.
But things have quickly turned sour for the Newcastle couple, who are now being accused of cheating by some of the other teams on the show, such as close friends Chris and Jenna.
This comes after Chris and Jenna questioned how Max and Karstan had enough money to cover the budget for their build. “We joked about it but we wanted them audited,” Jenna told Woman’s Day.
Fellow contestant Michael went on to add, “It’s the fact their apartment is so big and that there is a lot of labour there a lot of the time. It made me think something else was up because there is a strict set of rules we all have to follow.”
Teams were granted $100,000 each when they began the series, and some have picked up extra money and prizes along the way through room reveal wins, jury wins and successful challenges.
But Michael says rules such as setting a minimum hourly rate for tradesmen and have been put in place by the show to ensure constants do not employ friends cheaply or pay less in return for publicity of particular companies.
Yet Max and Karstin maintain they have done nothing wrong and have worked within the guidelines of the show. “We’re just as shocked as everyone one else – it was a massive shock to us,” Max said.
