The Block is back, baby! The hit reality TV show is set to return to Channel Nine this week.

Season 20 promises to be filled with design, drama, and dazzling renovations, as the Blockheads make their way to Phillip Island in Victoria.

The contestants will renovate five luxury family holiday homes — designed by longtime Block architect Julian Brenchley — from an abandoned resort just a few minutes' drive from the town of Cowes.

Almost all of your favourites are returning, with hosts Scott Cam and Shelley Craft joined by judges Marty Fox, Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer. Foreman Keith Schleiger has officially handed the job site over to his assistant, Dan Reilly, for this season.

But who will be competing for their chance to win $100,000 prize money (and you know, however much money they can stuff into their tool belts on auction day)?

Well, there's a carpenter, furniture designer, electrician, landscape business development manager and two plumbers in the mix. Talk about having an advantage!

Get to know the contestants below, before the show kicks off and one team quits  — yes, QUITS  — midway through renovating. Read more about that here.

This Cairns-based couple are ready for the challenge, having already built their own home together.

Brad is a tradie double-threat who runs his own successful business in Cairns as an electrician and plumber.

"Lighting to me is like architecture. That was a real strength for Steph and Gian last year and I hope it will be my strength this year," he said.

Meanwhile, hairdresser Kylie is ready to get her hands dirty.

"I will have a go at everything. I can handle a hammer and a drill and I’m not afraid to use it," Kylie said.

The pair have been long-time fans of The Block, and they're finally taking their fandom to the next level in 2024.

"I guess it’s something we have always watched, and thought we could do it, so why not give it a crack?" Brad said.

They have four children, Parker, 9, Bentleigh, 6, Steele, 4, and Slade, 1.

Kristian & Mimi

This South Australian couple first met while training together in the same gym class, and officially introduced themselves at their group fitness Christmas party in 2020.

After a few years of dating, the couple tied the knot in a "spectacular wedding ceremony" in Adelaide last November.

The wedding was so sweet it went "viral" on TikTok... allegedly, because her account is now private so sadly we can't watch it. But we can imagine!

The couple applied for The Block because they are competitive. And you know if it's self-described, the competitive genes must run deep.

"I think the reason we applied is because we love to challenge ourselves," Mimi said. "We are so competitive."

While Kristian and Mimi have previously renovated their Adelaide home, they say they're still new to the renovation game.

Kristian is an electrician who's worked for the same boss for the past 14 years, but he's now ready to step out on his own. In fact, it's a big part of his motivation for joining The Block.

"My boss is an absolute champion," he said. "But one day I do want to start my own business, and I think this could be a stepping stone in doing that, just to gain the confidence to start my own thing."

Ricky & Haydn

We know everyone is in it to win it, but Haydn's wife was eight months pregnant when filming began on The Block, so he was really, really in it to win it.

For Haydn, the pros of competing on The Block and potentially setting up his young family was enough to push him — and his partner, Chelsea — to forge ahead.

"It was touch and go as I will be missing out on those crucial moments," he said. "But the decision has been made and my lovely wife Chelsea has supported me through it."

While Haydn is an IT manager, Ricky is a plumber. He owns his own company and is used to working and managing a team.

"The Block is a big deal, and a bigger deal being the 20th season," Ricky said. "To be part of that is amazing and humbling. I plan to enjoy every minute of it."

Courtney & Grant

Courtney and Grant have been happily married for three years. Now, they've decided to put their bond to the test on The Block.

Their pride and joy is their home in the western Sydney suburb of Denham Court, which they built and styled themselves. They describe their interior design style as "Moditerranean," which is a modern take on traditional Mediterranean style.

Grant is hopeful that his professional skill set as a landscape business development manager will be an asset to their team in the final stages of the competition.

"I make sure my work is planned down to a tee, but that sometimes leaves me no time for my personal life," he said.

Meanwhile, Courtney works as an event account manager at a major events hire company and has launched her own furniture design business called The Lazy Stylist. Her Instagram account boasts 56,000 followers.

"I know it sounds like a cliche, but I always felt there was a bit more for us," Courteney said of securing a spot on The Block this season.

Jesse & Paige

Last, but certainly not least, are Jesse and Paige. He's a carpenter who has worked on many big projects which means he knows exactly what it takes to build a luxury home.

Paige is a claims specialist, and said that her biggest strength is that she's not afraid to speak her mind. Oop!

"I feel like sometimes people think I could be mean or rude, but I’m never those things," she said. "I'm just a direct person and I don’t beat around the bush."

They'll have their work cut out for them on Phillip Island, but Jesse and Paige are each other's biggest fans and supporters.

"Paige is the most hard-working and motivating person I know," Jesse said."She pushes me to be a better person." Paige returned the compliment. "Jesse has so many beautiful strengths."
