We’re just one week into the new season of The Bachelorette Australia and the drama is already well underway.

After a tense photo shoot group date which saw contestant Warwick storm out of the mansion and Noosa councillor Jess kicked out of the competition, last week’s episode was… intense.

Now, to make things even more ~dramatic~, a lone intruder is set to enter the mansion on Wednesday night’s episode.

Mamamia’s daily entertainment news podcast The Spill chatted to Angie Kent about the new season of The Bachelorette. Post continues after podcast.

But you see, this time around – there’s a catch.

In fact, it turns out this season’s intruder already knows Angie.

In an interview with TV Week, intruder and rescue dog advocate Ryan Anderson shared how he almost asked Angie on a date in the outside world.

“It started as common interest in the rescue-dog scene,” Ryan told the publication.

“We followed each other on Instagram and there was some banter,” he added.

“I’m an ambassador for an assistance dog charity and they had their gala ball coming up. I planned to ask her to the ball, but in the interim, she announced that she was the new Bachelorette.”

After he wasn’t able to organise a date with Angie, Ryan decided to apply for The Bachelorette instead.

“I let it be at first, but then I thought, ‘I’m going to get that date regardless’ and I subsequently applied for the show,” he said.

In a promo for the upcoming episode, it’s clear the other contestants weren’t exactly… pleased to see Ryan entering the competition.

“They thought there were ulterior motives because of the previous contact between Angie and me… it didn’t bother me too much. I’m here for Angie,” Ryan told TV Week.

Ryan, who is a former RSCPA inspector, beat 29 other finalists to win the Tinder X Cosmopolitan Bachelor of the Year in 2017.

At the time, Ryan told Confidential that he was hoping to meet a woman who is “keen on camping and dogs”.

“Someone who just likes me for me – I’m not really picky. Genuine, down-to-earth, girl-next-door-type,” he said.

Although Ryan hasn’t yet joined the competition, he’s already considered a major front runner among fans.

After all, Angie already follows him on Instagram… and did we mention how much they both love dogs? Yep, we’re convinced.

On Sophie Monk’s season of The Bachelorette, winner Stu Laundy also entered the competition as a lone intruder.

Much like Angie and Ryan, Sophie had also met Stu before he appeared on the show partway through the season.

“I had zero intentions of doing a dating reality show,” Stu told PodcastOne’s Romantically Challenged at the time.

“But because I’d been single for about three years at the time and I had met Sophie once before and she took my breath away and made me laugh, after a fair bit of coaxing from the producers, I decided to go on and take a massive punt really.”

The Bachelorette Australia airs Wednesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on Channel Ten.
