In a tragic update, The City of Orlando has now confirmed Eddie Justice was one of the 50 attendees at Pulse nightclub in Orlando who were shot dead by lone shooter Omar Mateen on Sunday morning. Our thoughts are with his family during the difficult time.
Mamamia previously reported:
A mother has shared the terrifying texts her son sent her while trapped in the bathroom of the Pulse nightclub massacre.
The son, known as Eddie, messaged his mother to tell her he loved her and that he thought he was going to die.
Eddie was among more than a hundred clubbers who were in the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, in the United States, when a man entered and began shooting.
The lone shooter – identified by police as 29-year-old Omar Mateen – is said to have killed 50 people and left at least 53 with injuries.
Mina Justice shared the text message history with American news station WFTV to reveal the sheer terror of the event and her desperate attempt to maintain contact.
The texts begin a 2:06am and detail several crucial moments that happened seconds before the police entered.
The messages begin with: “Mommy I love you” before he relays he was hiding in the bathroom with other club goers.
Other texts warn his mother of the shooter's approach: "he's coming" and "he has us, and he's in her with us."
The texts only grow in terror as Eddie says he believes it's over and tells his mother "I'm gonna die".
Justice then repeatedly asked her son to call her: "answer our damn phone" she writes.
Justice told WOFL she had a phone conversation with her son that provided further detail to the hysteric scene.
“I think it’s all of them in the bathroom. I could hear a lot of people crying,” she said.
Ms Justice told reporters outside the club on Sunday morning that she still did not know if her son was safe.
"The next text said: "He has us, and he's in here with us,"' she said.
"That was the last conversation."
Justice said that in all her family can do now is pray for a positive outcome.
The shooter is said to have been a US citizen of Afghani descent from Port St Lucie, Florida.
It was reported by NBC that he was shot around 6am after pledging allegiance to the Islamic State.
