A teenager is in a critical condition after falling about six storeys from a balcony on the Sunshine Coast on New Year’s Eve.

The Queensland Police Service said the 19-year-old man fell at a Mooloolaba Esplanade apartment complex in Mooloolaba about 8:30pm.

He was taken to Nambour General Hospital in a critical condition.

It was one of the major injuries to come out of New Year celebrations around Queensland.

In Gladstone, a 25-year-old man fell about eight metres onto train tracks about 12:25am.

He suffered serious spinal and internal injuries and was transported to the Gladstone Base Hospital.

In Brisbane, two taxi drivers and one taxi marshal were assaulted in Fortitude Valley early this morning.

Two men were arrested at the scene.

In Ipswich, a male constable suffered a deep laceration to his hand during the arrest of a 17-year-old Yamanto man for public nuisance about 1:00am.

During the altercation a glass bottle smashed which injured the officer and the man.

The 17-year-old was treated at Ipswich Hospital for a minor injury, while the officer was taken to St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital for treatment where it is expected he will require surgery to his hand.

The teenager has been issued with a notice to appear in court for public nuisance.
