A teenager was killed when she fell from 15 metres from the top of a cliff south of Hobart on Saturday night after leaving a party with friends.

Tasmania Police Inspector David Wiss told The Examiner 17-year-old Maggie Lore had climbed the safety fence with her friends, before she lost her footing and fell.

“There is nothing to suggest the incident was anything other than a tragic accident with some youths making some misjudgements,” Wiss said.

Friends and family have begun to post tributes online for the Richmond local, with those close to her calling her “one of the best people I have ever met”.

“Heaven has just gained another beautiful angel,” one friend wrote on Facebook.

“How special you will always be to everyone you have ever met, I can’t believe I won’t hear you laugh or see you smile again,” another said.

A woman and a child have been found dead at a Pascoe Vale home in Melbourne’s north.

The 39-year-old woman and three-year-old girl were found by detectives shortly after 5.30pm on Sunday night, the Herald Sun reports. They are yet to be formally identified.

“The exact cause of the deaths are yet to be determined but police are not looking for anyone else in connection to the incident at this stage,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

Neighbour Mohammed Assad, 18, said he heard the dead woman’s husband screaming at around 5pm.

“He came home, he walked inside and then came out and just started screaming,” he told the Herald Sun.

The 23-year-old ex-partner of accused Australian paedophile Peter Scullywas arrested in the Philippines on Wednesday after a year-long investigation, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Police originally allowed Liezyl Margalloto go free at the time of Scully’s arrest – when she led police to a house where the body of a 12-year-old girl Scully had allegedly held as a sex slave was found – because they had not gathered enough evidence against her.

It’s believed the 23-year-old is the masked and naked woman shown in a video called Daisy’s Destruction, which shows an 18-month-old baby girl tied upside down while being sexually assaulted.

It’s alleged 52-year-old Scully sold the video to clients around the world for $10,000.

Margallo is expected to testify in court against her former live-in partner. Scully has pleaded not guilty to 75 charges.

The woman will face charges including human trafficking and child abuse. She could receive multiple life sentences if she is convicted.

Three people have died after they became trapped in a vehicle that was swept about by floodwaters in the Northern Territory, News Corp reports.

There were 20 people travelling inside and outside the 4WD when it attempted to cross the Moyle River.

“Seventeen people managed to get out and make it to the river’s banks, but unfortunately three didn’t make it out,” a police spokesman told NT News.

“Several of the survivors walked to the nearby community of Pulumpa to raise the alarm and police responded immediately. However, there was nothing we could do because the river was so high and the car at that stage was completely submerged.”

Police divers were able to recover the bodies of a 61-year-old male, a 61-year-old female and a 21-year-old male once the floodwaters had receded.

An Uber driver working in New South Wales’ Lake Macquarie was attacked by a group of teenagers and had his car stolen.

The 35-year-old man was called to an address before he was met by a group of up to 20 teens, who dragged him from his car and assaulted him, SBS News reports.

After being kicked and punched by the group, he was able to flee to a nearby house, The Daily Telegraph reports.

The man’s car was found nearby after it was crashed into a roundabout barrier. Police have since seized the car for forensic testing.

Uber spokesman Mike Scott said the company would “work closely with police to assist the investigation”.

“There is no place for violence in our communities and our thoughts are with the driver-partner during this difficult time,” he said.

“The safety of our driver-partners and riders is always a top priority and we’ll be offering our support to the driver.”

US President Donald Trump’s executive order restricting travel for refugees and immigrant has sparked a series of protests at airports in the United States and around the world.

Thousands have gathered at airports across America – like New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia and Los Angeles International Airport – to express their opposition to the barring of travellers from Muslim-majority nations.

At JFK, more than 2000 people chanted “let them in” after 12 refugees were detained on Saturday. Even celebrities – like Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon – joined in on the demonstration.

Protesters inside a Virginia airport chanted, “Love, Not Hate, Makes America Great” and “Say It Loud, Say it Clear, Muslims Are Welcome Here” as passengers collected baggage from carousels within the terminal.
