UPDATE: Leila McKinnon pregnant with second child.
Today Show host Leila McKinnon and husband Nine CEO David Gyngell, are expecting to welcome their second child into the world.
The couple’s first child, Edmund (also known as Ted), was born back in October 2012 with much joy after many years of struggling with fertility issues – including five years of IVF.
The Australian Financial Review have reported that McKinnon is due in May – congratulations to the couple!
UPDATE: Australian model Gemma Ward gives birth to baby girl.
Australian model Gemma Ward – she of the otherworldly, ethereal good looks – has given birth and welcomed a baby girl into the world, in Hawaii.
Not a bad place to give birth.
Ward gave birth to the baby girl yesterday – who is rumoured to be named Naia – her first child with partner David Letts, also a model.
New York-based photographer Nicole Trunfio shared a picture of the new mum and baby girl on Instagram. Trunfio wrote, “Congratulations to my beautiful incredible friend @glouisew and her man @lettsy2106 for welcoming this little angel into the world!!!!”
1. Beyonce and Jay-Z go vegan for 22 days
As much as we love Beyonce, and worship her as a strong, independent, bootylicious deity, the girl does get a little bit swept up in the world of fad diets. We hear that in preparation for her role in Dreamgirls, she undertook a ‘Master Cleanse’ (whatever that is).
And she claims to have lost her baby weight by adhering to a protein-rich diet.
Now, Queen Bey is going vegan. But just for 22 days. Because, apparently, that’s how long it takes to attain spiritual self-actualisation through kidney beans.
Beyonce’s husband, Jay-Z, posted the following explanation on his website:
Psychologists have said it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. On the 22nd day, you’ve found the way.
On December 3rd, one day before my 44th birthday I will embark on a 22 Day challenge to go completely vegan, or as I prefer to call it, plant-based!! This all began a few months back when a good friend and vegan challenged me to embrace a “plant-based breakfast” everyday. It was surprisingly easier on me than I thought…
Why now? There’s something spiritual to me about it being my 44th birthday and the serendipity behind the number of days in this challenge; 22 (2+2=4) coupled with the fact that the challenge ends on Christmas day … It just feels right!
So you can call it a spiritual and physical cleanse. I will post my progress … Any professional vegans out there that have any great food spots please help out! I don’t know what happens after Christmas. A semi-vegan, a full plant-based diet? Or just a spiritual and physical challenge? We’ll see…
Best of luck and health!
P.S. B is also joining me.
2. Justin Bieber surprises a fan.
Moving to the opposite end of our celebrity worship spectrum, popstar/all-round-bad-life-choice-maker Justin Bieber has done something that kind of makes us not want to roll our eyes so far back into our head that they need to be surgically retrieved.
19-year-old Kate O’Neill is a ‘Belieber’ (Bieber fan) from Melbourne. She had tickets to his concert, but was suddenly unable to attend after a car accident that left her fighting for her life in hospital. O’Neill, who followed Bieber on Twitter and regularly tweeted him, was shocked when the 19-year-old popstar tweeted this:
special girl. been hearing alot about her. hmmm http://t.co/8Syapphs5W
— Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) December 2, 2013
But nothing could prepare Kate for what happened next. Bieber was holding a private concert for some of his biggest fans. So he sent a car to the hospital, to collect Kate and bring her to the venue.
And then this happened:
— Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) December 4, 2013
At the concert, he said:
I love my Beliebers so much. They are always there for me and have done so much for me. It was so special to be able to give something back, especially to an amazing fan like Kate. It is what my Believe tour is all about.
Okay, so he’s maybe not a total douche canoe.
Oh, wait, we spoke too soon. In other Justin Bieber news, the star has been given a warning by the AFP for speaking inappropriately to a female customs official.
3. Taylor Swift comes to Australia. Everyone goes crazy.
Taylor Swift gave the first concert of her Red tour in Australia overnight, playing at Olympic Park in Sydney. And, this morning, everyone is going nuts for her. She’s trending on Twitter. She’s on the front page of all the major news sites.
And, why?
Because she arrived on time. She was nice. And she sang well.
Simple.
Whitney Houston/Justin Bieber/Rihanna/anyone else who has charged $120+ for a late/rude/flat show, take note.
Here is a brilliant video of Taylor cheering “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!”
And here are some pictures of Taylor. Because she is awesome:
4. Paul Walker’s cause of death revealed.
A coroner’s report has revealed the cause of The Fast and the Furious star Paul Walker’s death. The 40-year-old actor died as a result of the combined effects of traumatic and thermal injuries. This finding confirms that it was not the impact of the crash that caused his death.
Sadly, we’ve heard that the controversial Westboro Baptist Church (best known for picketing the funerals of gay activists) has announced, they will picket Walker’s funeral, claiming he used his talents for shallow fame.
This decision is in stark contrast to reports of Walker’s charity work and all round generosity. One of the best we’ve read is that Walker anonymously bought a couple a $10,000 engagement ring in a Santa Barbara jewellery store, after overhearing them say that they couldn’t afford it.
Walker leaves behind a 15-year-old daughter and a long-term girlfriend.
5. Citizens of earth, meet your new Wonder Woman. (Hint: She’s not Megan Gale.)
DC Comics are planning a new superhero movie with Superman, Batman AND Wonder Woman. Which sounds awesome. But while Henry Cavill has been confirmed as staying on as Superman, and Ben Affleck was recently announced as the new Batman, the new Wonder Woman was still a dirty little studio secret. Until now.
And your new Wonder Woman is…
Gal Gadot!
You know, Gal Gadot? Miss Israel 2004?
Yeah, we hadn’t heard of her either.
But she’s not a total unknown. She’s been in a couple of the more recent Fast and the Furious films.

Hmm, not sure it's much use telling Whitney Houston to be on time for her shows.
