There was one Coachella beauty trend we didn't see coming.

Move over, braids — there’s a new hairstyle taking over the festival scene, and it might just remind you of your favourite Disney mouse.

They’re called ‘space buns’, and model Jess Hart and bestie Poppy Delevingne were among the hundreds of people sporting them at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California at the weekend.

Yep, looks like the festival style staples of flower crowns and chokers have some serious competition.

Partly inspired by Star Wars character Princess Leia’s iconic double buns, and part reminiscent of Minnie (or Mickey) Mouse ears – space buns are the ultimate in fun, carefree hairstyling.

Whether it’s braided hair leading to buns, a half-up half-down ‘do or simply two big, bouncy buns, this hairstyle can be as complicated or fuss-free as you like and still look insanely cool.

Check out the gorgeous space buns spotted at Coachella in the gallery below.

Ooh Flyingdale - was he good?.........I saw him 20 or so years ago in Canberra when he had a broken leg & he was awesome, but I had heard his voice wasn't sounding the best lately?

Just for you Kimbo. I was also at that concert when he was in a wheelchair. The next day he was in Hospital in Sydney with blood clots.Nearly killed him.He shredded his vocal chords in 85 so his voice isnt the best..He self taught himself the flute but a few years back went back to basics and learned the classical way.He has a great presence on stage and his flute playing was great.Wonderfull concert and not a mobile phone in sight.
