In early September, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas became the latest celebrity couple to call it quits in 2023 - and there have a been a lot of them.
In the weeks that have passed since their split, the saga has taken many twists and turns, all playing out in the public eye. There was Joe’s fairly transparent attempt at a PR takedown of Sophie’s character, and there was a lawsuit which has now temporarily been settled.
Throughout, there have been plenty of key players on the sidelines chiming in with their opinions on how the former couple are navigating this messy mess. Let’s take a look at who has been offering support and dishing out their allegiance to Team Joe or Team Sophie. Ahem, it’s ah, pretty one-sided.
Team Sophie.
Taylor Swift.
Revenge is a dish best served cold… and alongside your ex-husband's, ex-girlfriend. In a moment none of us saw coming, Sophie Turner stepped out for dinner with Taylor Swift in New York City last week. Jonas famously broke up with Swift in a 27 second phone call, so she of all people knows how callous the singer can be - and very quickly made a pretty iconic public statement of support.
She captioned the video with: “All I can say is this is from 2009, and I was right,” adding, “the House Griffin knows no queen but for the queen in the north, whose name is Stark #TeamSophie.”
Emily Ratajkowski.
When it comes to public divorces, model Emily Ratajkowski definitely has some wisdom she can impart with 27-year-old Turner. Having gone through a messy breakup with her ex-husband Sebastian Bear-McLard, who was accused of having multiple affairs, Em Rata, 32, now has some clarity on moving forward.
“It seems that a lot of young ladies are getting divorced before they turn 30,” she said in a TikTok video. “As someone who got married at 26 [who] has been separated for a little over a year [at] 32, I have to tell you, I don’t think there’s anything better.”
While she didn't address the Turner/Jonas split directly, we're pretty sure this is what she was referencing.
While touring, during their September 6 performance Nick addressed the crowd and told them Joe is his “favourite person in the entire world” before they embraced in a hug. Then at their Dodgers Stadium performance on September 8, Joe said, "If you don't hear it from these lips, don't believe it, okay?" and continued with “thank you for the love and support. Me and my family, we love you guys."
On the fence.
Diplo.
While plenty of celebs have been either coming forward with support or keeping their opinions to themselves, others have been remaining impartial on the whole situation. Last week while appearing on Watch What Happens Live, DJ Diplo was asked what he thinks about the divorce.
“I wish them all the love,” he responded.
This comes after Diplo played a special part in their secret Las Vegas wedding which he accidentally made public when he livestreamed the event while in attendance as a guest.
“[Livestreaming] had just started happening,” he said. “I was like, ‘This is a perfect opportunity to livestream something. I didn’t know it was a secret, so it came out in the news.”
Marion Cotillard.
It seems no one in the world was more devastated by the news of Joe and Sophie’s divorce than Academy Award-winner Marion Cotillard.
When Entertainment Tonight announced the news she jumped in the comments section and wrote: “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! NO! NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!”
We do hope she’s doing ok now and on her way to processing and healing.
