Two days ago, we reported that Sophie Monk was stuck in Dubai with a mystery illness, that had caused her ankle to swell to three times it’s normal size. Now Sophie Monk has revealed the reason behind her elephant-sized  footsies, “I had a severe allergic reaction and it inflamed in a damaged ankle. It’s just really scary when you aren’t home. Thank you guys,” she shared on Instagram.

“Feel SO much better! Thank you for the flowers,” she wrote.

In an act of patriotism she added, “I LOVE AUSTRALIA!” “The support I’ve had makes me so grateful I moved home, it doesn’t even compare to overseas.

When you go overseas you anticipate maybe ending up with a bout of dodgy Bali belly or a case of epic sunburn, but nothing like what 2 Day FM host Sophie Monk has been struck down with while holidaying in Dubai.

The 34-year-old cried on air this morning when talking to co-hosts Jules Lund and Merrick Watts about the mystery illness that has prevented her from flying out of the United Arab Emirates.

Doctors at first suspected deep vein thrombosis, but she confirmed on radio that the medical experts now do not know what has caused the swelling on her left leg.

“I looked down at my ankle and I had three,” said Monk. “It looks like an elephant. I’ve got to be honest, my knee is smaller than my ankle.”

“They don’t know and now I’ve got a rash on my hands as well,” said Monk.

She’s been prevented from flying back to Sydney for at least the next two days, missing her scheduled return to work after a holiday to Dubai.

“I’m meant to fly tomorrow but I’m actually getting upset because it’s (ankle) got bigger. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know anyone here.”

Monk then broke down in tears, catching her co-hosts off guard who ended the call when it became obvious the former singer was in distress.

Get better soon Sophie!
