real life

Apparently, you don't need a spouse to have the perfect wedding any more.

Lots of women dream about their wedding day, even if they aren’t engaged or even in a relationship.

We get it – you get to wear a big white dress, get loads of presents and hang out with your relatives and best buddies for one glorious day.

Weddings are fun.

And so, an innovative Japanese travel agency has come up with the genius idea of offering wedding packages for single women – sans husband.

Cerca Travel’s “Kyoto Solo Wedding” package allows women to dress up in their bridal best and pose for wedding photos taken by a professional photographer.

Here is part of the pitch on their website:

You are single and you don’t know if you would be able to get married and have a wedding ceremony in the near future, but you would like to have some pictures of yourself in a wedding gown or in a gorgeous bridal kimono now, when you are young and beautiful…Offer yourself an opportunity to experience the feeling of being a princess…

Wow. That’s kind of harsh, Cerca Travel.

See? No husband necessary.

Regardless, the solo wedding service launched in June and so far more than 30 “brides” have signed up.

For a cool $2,500, you get to rent a wedding dress (or kimono), full bridal hairstyling and make-up, the photo shoot and accommodation and travel, and a bouquet.

If you want to cough up a little extra cash, they will also supply a man to pose as your fake husband, and throw in a dinner with your tour operator. That’s true romance, right there.

Sure, it sounds a little bit wacky. But whatever floats your boat, right?

Would you ever consider having a solo wedding?
